Is anyone knowledgeable in plated bullets? I have been using X-Treme plated bullets for handgun reloads that are generally rated under 1,100 fps. I would like to use them for reloading 7.62x39 that would probably be in the 1,800 to 2,100 fps range. I have been told that the plated bullets are limited to about 1,200 to 1,400 fps or the plating can peal off in the bore. Berry’s indicates a max velocity of 1,700 fps for 110 grain bullets. The X-Treme 123 gr bullets are sized to .312, but no indication of velocity limits. They also have plated bullets for 223 & 308 that would be a lot greater velocity than 7.62x39. Does anyone have any definitive knowledge on the limits of plated bullets?
