Plated bullets Vs. Jacketed

I still deal with Midway, a lot. Great site, lots of pics and info etc. Prices are usually competitive. Shipping is fast. They are like any other place, some things they are higher than others on. I won't buy Raniers from them, or powder or primers, and not bullets mostly, but many other things I will. Sometimes their shipping on a small order seems outrageous because they don't offer USPS shipping on it, but other times they do and it is reasonable. Frustrating sometimes? Sure. Good place to deal with? Yes. I buy from Brownells as well, and they really are pricey. I gotta agree to a point with The Bushmaster, bitch about service etc, but not pricing. Just don't buy it if you think it is too much or you can get a better deal elsewhere. :)

You know...I deal with Midway and pay their shipping. Why? Because I noticed on the other sights that shipping was free and the price of the components were higher. In the end it all came out even.

That's all true and fair enough. I have no quarrel with Midway's item pricing.

However, the problem for every Joe 6-Pack is this. She who must be obeyed gives us an allowance each month. When I go to Midway to work up an order and then, there at the end, Surprise!! $20 extra dollars for shipping. I have to go back and take off a few items. It's a pain.

When I go to Grafs I know that if I come $4.50 short of my allowance, then everything is OK.

Sure in the end it might be the same price, but it sure is less hassle the Graf way. If Midway simply had an estimated shipping cost calculator up in the corner of the screen, then things might be different.

Thanks guys. I really appreciate the feedback. So far my website shows the prices with shipping included. Also, there is an order counter on the side of the shopping cart that caculates everything for you. We have not yet launched the website simply because the credit card portal is taking forever to come through. They say, "this is where people commit all the fraud." Apparently they have to run some kind of a background check on me and my partner. Once it comes through you guys can check out the site and send me feedback.

Are plated bullets safe to crimp?

I’m probably asking a rudimentary question; please bear with me as I’m rather new to reloading. Is it safe to use the Lee factory crimp die on plated bullets that will be fired in a semi-auto pistol?

Taper crimp - yes. Rolled crimp - no.

As stated, you just want to take the bell off the case, maybe a skosh more, but that's all. Squeeze it too tight in the FCD, and the brass will rebound, but the bullet won't, and then the bullet is no longer held tightly, and will either seat too deeply when it hits the feed ramp, or will launch forward into the barrel when the case mouth stops the cartridge's forward momentum.
