We finally have a shooting club where I live and I want to start competing.
Which brand of copper plated bullets do you think can be driven at higher velocities without detrimental effects to accuracy and bore fouling: Berry's Preferred Plated or Rainer Leadsafe?
Also, hard moly coated bullets from Precision Bullets and Blk. Bullets International? Who likes which one best.
I read that the black bullets can withstand 2000 fps. However, out of my 2 - 10mm’s, I have only loaded 6.2 gr. of Unique with the 180 gr.TC, Blk. Bullets International with decent accuracy ( 8 of 10 shots within 2 1/4” at 25 yds. with the Glock 20, my best) and about 3” to 3 1/2” groups out of my AMT Longslide 10mm at 25 yds from sand bags.
I just want to make minimum major power with a little extra for existing weather conditions on match days.
5.4 gr of WW 231 in each 10mm yields fair groups, 10 shots at 3” to 4” at 25 yds. They are probably only running 800 – 850 fps. Does that sound about right for both powder charges? Would this make major power?
I am wondering how fast can each brand of the 180 and 200 gr copper plated bullets be driven out of a SA Range Officer, Colt Series 70 Gold Cup NM, AMT-Longslide 10mm, and Glock 20 and still make major power with good accuracy.
Is there someone who can shed some light on these types of bullets and the 2 powders that I am now using? Should I try AutoComp and Power Pistol?
On another subject, I have had 3 lbs of WW 680 for about 25 to 30 years and it is still like new. Does anyone know if I could gain any velocity out of my 8 and 3/8” barreled 629 Classic DX. I am using WW 296 and H 110 now. With a 4X Leupold and solid rest the revolver will shoot 4” at 100 yds.
If the WW 680 is too slow for my 240gr JHP, 44 mag, I guess I'll have to start saving (like 5 years) for a new 460XVR.
Thanks,
Frank
