Last week a local guy offered me a good deal on a NIB Redfield Revolution 3-9x50mm scope ($150) that he needed to get rid of and even though I really didn't need the scope, I helped him out by paying him the asking price. Upon getting it home, I decided to put it on a bolt action rifle that I occasionally hunt with and set about evaluating it for my use as I have always done with my scopes.

I have always been a Leupold fan and, of late, I have really begun taking a strong liking to the Nikons. For my hunting situations, my eyes and shooting needs, any scope that costs more than $400 is wasted on me. I am completely content and adequately outfitted with a VX-ll or Buckmaster.

Now, back to the surprise, I have not given much thought or credence to Redfield scopes before or after being taken over by Leupold. This is not to say that I felt they were not quality scopes, I have just been more than happy with Leupolds in the past and Nikons in the more near term. But, upon acquiring this Redfield, I decided to compare it to one of the VX-ll Leupolds to just see how it stacks up for my hunting and shooting situations. To say that I have been pleasantly surprised is actually an understatement as at the present time, I can really find no discernable difference in the performance of the Revoluton compared with the VX-ll and I am actually proud that this guy offered me the chance to buy this scope.

Glad you like your new scope!

Not to be harsh, but what criteria are you using to make this statement? Optic quality, longevity, accuracy of adjustment?

Not that this is the case, but I could go pick my kids up at school in a Ferarri 458 Italia, followed by a 1987 Ford Aerostar, and then report that there really wasn't any difference between the Aerostar and the little red car.

Please excuse me if I'm being crabby and coming off like someone pooped in my cornflakes this morning.

If you have more than one child, you would notice a big difference. :)

I usually duct-tape the extras to the hood of my 458's, when the Aerostar is in the shop...

Agreed. Those redfields have surprisingly good glass and light gathering ability. I picked it up for a cheapo savage hunting rifle over a Leupold and pocketed the difference.

My reply was a bit mean spirited, so I deleted and apologize for the unnecessary roughness.

Suffice it to say, in my rudimentary optical and tracking tests that compares the qualities of the scopes for the manner in which I use them, they are equal.

Internet commando, huh? Outstanding.

Never had a Redfield, have had a Leupold. Just wondered.

Carry on.
