Wow. I bought a 3x9x50 at midway 3 months ago for 169$ and now it is 233$!!!!!!!!!

All the Redfield scopes went up at least 50$.

They are now priced just a little bit over the Nikon Prostaff.....

Now I have a dilemma. I need to put a scope on a 270 and a scope on a 30-06. Both bolt actions.

Would you still go with Redfield or go with Prostaff or Buckmaster?
Would you go for 3x9x50 or 3x9x40? I begin to seriously to think there is not much difference between 40mm and 50mm now.....

I will NOT buy any Leupold. Overpriced at my eyes.

I like the Redfield Revolution scopes. Leupold quality control, and folks in Oregon have jobs because we buy them.

I also like the Accu-Range reticle:

Looks to me like the Redfield Revolution is the one that's overpriced, now.
No way I'd buy a multicoated Redfield now that the new, fully-multicoated Leupold VX-1 is only $30 more.

I found the red field 3-9x50mm for 195$ at red-dot-sights.com. Bought it.I almost went with the Hawke but it is made in China and I refuse to buy Chinese.

I have the 2-7x33 which I got from Cabelas for $129; its an amazing scope for my Savage MKII. At that price it is the best scope I've personally seen, so if can be had anywhere for that price, even if you have to wait, I'd wait.

In regards to the price jump, I have a feeling it will fall back down. Simple S&D. They were selling out too fast, so they increased their prices.

It makes me wonder if the pricing is intended to generate interest in the offshore Redfield products. The Revolution line is produced in Oregon, the Revenge 3-9x42, for example is from the Philippines. Same with the 3-9x52 Revenge. I believe the entire Revenge line is Philippine.

I have a Weaver 1-3x from the Philippines, and it is head and shoulders above the Chinese products I see.

Leupold's current VX-1 line is indeed fully multicoated.

IMO the Burris Fullfield II is a much better option especially at the current pricing. I'd check it out.

The glass is not as good. I have one and put is side by side with my Redfield.

I've had several Fullfield II's as well as a Redfield Revolution, and the glass in the Burris blew away the Redfield. I'm wondering if you have a defective one or something. I've also had a Prostaff as well as Monarch, and to me the Burris has better glass than even the Monarch. For some reason I get a lot of chromatic aberration with every Nikon that I've had. Other than that, I really like the Nikon scopes as well.

Here is a great article comparing the two and a few others. http://opticstalk.com/topic21176.html

Our neighbor's wife wanted to buy him a rifle/scope combo last Christmas. We settled on a Marlin XS7, in .308, with a Redfield 3-9x50. The scope cost $189.00. It's not the Accu-Trac.

The performance of the scope is nothing short of amazing. We did the "box" at 100 yards, and it was just about perfect. It's bright, clear, and easy to use.

We have a Nikon Buckmaster on a Sig SHR 970, a 3-9x40, and it isn't anywhere near as optically bright as the Redfield.

I also have a Burris Fullfield II, 3-9x50, that I got as a Christmas gift. Side by side, none of us can see a difference in the optical performance of the two. That scope, by the way, cost $250.00, plus shipping.

As for the VX-1, multi-coating isn't necessarily going to produce any significant advantages over anything. Multi-coating can include a Rain-gard type of coating, or an anti-abrasion coating, or even a reflection-reducing coating. None of those will produce superior optical performance. I've also heard the VX-I's optics compared to those of the Bushnell Trophy scopes.

Don't own a VX-1, don't care for their adjustments. Like the VX-3 for everything but price.

consider Burris

Have you considered a Burris? The Fullfield 2 line has glass that rivals scopes costing 3 times as much. I have a Remington 700 VTR in 308 with a Burris 6.5-20 Fullfield 2. This combo makes dime size groups at 100m. My best friend sold his Leopold Mk3 and bought a Burris. They also carry a lifetime warranty. You can get a Burris 3-9x40 for $180 from Natchez.

I have a Redfield 2-7x33 duplex on a H&R 20ga Ultra slughunter. I love it, and it has helped me take two deer in the last two years. I've been thinking about putting the 2-7x33 Accu Range on an AR I'm buying. I think it will be plenty of optic, and not break the bank.

I hope the customer service that you receive from Redfield/Leupold is better than my recent experience. I have a Redfield Revolution 4-12x40 that slipped the threads on the front tube. I didnt notice for a while until I the accuracy fell way off. Closer examination proved that the front tube was loose. My warranty was denied and the scope sent back to me. They wanted $131 to repair the scope. I passed on that since I bought the scope last year from Cabela's for ~$179. Needless to say, I have since liquidated my Leupold equipment and am having wonderful success with Nikon and Burris. The Fullfield II line is a true value IMO.
