I'm trying to decide on one of these guns for carry. I'm most interested in a concealability / ease-of-carry comparison (I think I have a handle on the "feature" comparison, but feel free to offer thoughts).

Note, I don't care about the money difference, so please don't say "for the price difference...". In the interest of disclosure, I already have the Glock, but am thinking of replacing it.

Will I find the HK harder to carry/conceal? Thanks!

Sorry, I voted before fully reading your post!

I voted H&K but since the only criteria is concealability, I should have voted for the Glock.

For me, the width of a gun is the most significant dimension (assuming length and height are within reason) for concealability.

I would prefer the H&K over the Glock for other reasons, but on your criteria of concealability alone, I'd give the nod to the Glock.

Anna's Dad: Thanks for the reply - what you said is exactly what I was afraid of - I prefer the HK for other reasons, too, but wonder if the trade-off is worth it, if the SK is too fat... I already find the 26 pretty chunky...

First let me say, I am a die hard HK fan.

However, I do carry a G26.

It shoots well. It's easy for pocket carry. There are tons of holsters and after market gear.

Then the cool part, it takes the 33 round mags.

You say Glock, but your reasons support HK...

I appreciate your help, sincerely, but...

I have other pocket carry guns (j-frame & LCP - I do have a Nemesis holster for the 26, and have tried pocket carry - too big for me).

I don't care about much "after market" gear except one quality IWB holster, and I have absolutely no use for a 33 rd magazine...:barf:

So - if those are the reasons behind your vote, I'll chalk it up on the HK side! :neener:

I guess I just need to find an HK and try it - IWB 4 o'clock & smartcarry - those are my two carry methods if I'm not pocket carrying. The question boils down to this - will the HK carry as (or nearly as) well as the 26 using these two methods? If it's even close, then I've already decided I'd rather have the HK. The Glock is stone reliable, and I will stick with it if the HK is too big...

Well...both are excellent, small 9mm poly pistols.

The HK is far more expensive -1

The HK is DA/SA -1 (for me...I am a revolver guy and insist on consistent, mearsurable trigger pulls).

I never have fired the Hk, so that is where I must end my analysis. I recently purchased a G26 and found it to be quite a weapon. Accurate, light and, for the first time in my life, I've actually taken a weapon down to its basic 26 parts. This is a simple, rugged weapon.

I voted HK but mostly because I have one and it fits my hands better. 0.10" in thickness may or may not be noticeable to you when concealing. I'm a skinny guy and my SK rides in my VMII very nicely. I just prefer the variant 3 of the HK better than the glock. I like the DA/SA and decocker mode.

If you have the 26 and shoot well with it...don't change. Someone pointed out that Glock accessories are easier to find and that is very true.

I don't think you'll find the HK harder to conceal.

It's a very good gun, and if I take my time, I shoot it well (the gun is inherently accurate as heck). The downside is that point shooting is high due to the funky Glock grip angle, and I really don't care much for the "Safe Action" trigger for carry. I have grown to prefer either a manual safety, or a true DA pull (preferably with an external hammer - or rotating cylinder :p ).

I know the Glock is safe as it is, etc., and don't want to have the thread take a bad turn into Glocks and manual safeties - I've beaten that horse on other threads. :uhoh: It's a completely personal preference. As for my personal Glock, it has a safety, but as I've carried my DAO j-frame more, I think I'd like a DA/SA without safety for carry. I've shot DA/SA plenty, but never carried one.

I don't think you'll find the HK harder to conceal.

At the very least, I've learned it's a close call, and I should go check it out. I need to go when the store is slow, and I can strap it on even for 10 minutes and walk around. The store I frequent is huge, and very busy. They are nice, but I always feel rushed! :banghead:

Perusing the HK site, I was surprised to see the USPc is thinner than both the 26 and P2kSK, although larger in other dimensions, maybe I should take another look at that...

I'm well armed carry-wise,

(+LCP, no pic) so there's no hurry, but the dilemma is consuming me right now, as I avoid work...

Get the Glock,

You can use the savings to buy...
I don't want to sound snooty and say "money's no object," and I'm nowhere near rich, but I don't buy many guns, so money's almost no object. Heck, I have almost $900 in a snubby...:what: (above, plus CT grips added) The only reason I think of price at all is that in Ohio we have to leave them in our car sometimes...

G-26 slide width: 1.18 in.
Hk P2000sk width: 1.28 in.

I've seen those numbers, but are those really the widths of the entire slide, or is the SK "wider" just because of it's silly ambidextrous slide release. Sorry left handers, but that's the one thing I don't like about the HK. If they want to make it easily reversible, fine, but having one on both sides just annoys left and right handers!

I was hoping someone who carried both could speak to the "practical" width, meaning does it actually feel fatter carrying it... I do thank all for their answers, and will certainly enjoy any additional comments and thoughts, but as common sense would dictate, I need to go see for myself... :) It's just hard to do that sitting at your desk at work... :(

For sight picture and inside the waisteband type of holsters; the Glock 26 being thinner will do the job.

I've shot the G27 and Hk P2000sk, both in .40S&W and happy with them...but I just choose the Glock.

I don't own an HK, so I can't say for certain, but: I'm willing to bet Glock also has a bigger REPLACEMENT parts aftermarket than HK? Very easy to get replacement (as we already know enhancement parts are easy and plentiful to come by) parts for a Glock!

I'd also get a couple 15 and 17 round magazines from Glock; I'd also get a few 33 round mags from Glock, as well. You feel you might not need 'em now, but we carry guns in the first place for what we don't "need" right now, as well, right? No one is shooting at you RIGHT NOW, but you still carry your gun, right? We prepare for the unseen and unknown future when we carry pistols in the first place! Get the mags! ;)

Get the higher cap mags, because one of these days, they just might be banned altogether, and then you'll be sorry you didn't take advantage of getting 'em before! :banghead:

I'd stick with the G26, mainly because: Simple > Complex. When the S Hs the F, simplicity is king over complexity! Believe it! And no matter how much money you have "to waste", it's all the more better spent on more ammo... ammo... AMMO! Prices aren't getting any lower! Buy now... NOW! Buy in bulk if you have a bit of money to spend! HURRY! Go! Go! GO! :)

"The prudent man sees danger ahead and takes precaution; the simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences."

I was in your exact position a couple months ago. I got rid of the Glock for the SK in V3. Really nice gun, let me say that again, its a really nice gun.

Now that we're clear about that, here is my $.02. The SK had a DA pull that rubbed me wrong for some reason. I was used to the short reset on the G26 and the longer reset of the SK took some getting used to. No more accurate than the G26 but mechanically more complicated. It is IMO the BMW of subs and with that in mind I treated it more like a BMW.

As I write this post I am wearing a brand new G26. I decided for a carry piece I needed super reliable and accurate and simple. the Glock is all those things and more. It is the reliable old Chevy of Subs and when you have to fight you dont want the tender pretty piece, you want the old Chevy!!! Stick with the Glock man you wont regret it.

My HK 2000sk is my primary carry gun. The difference in size between the 26 and the HK is not really significant, unless you are ankle carrying or similar

Exactly!

i had the hk p2000sk v3 in .40 and the glock 27.
the hk is a very nicely made pistol, very accurate.

the double action first pull was very long and heavy. i really wanted to like it since i think it is so well built and beautiful. i put about 800 rounds through it.

i shot it in a defensive pistol match and shot a second round with a brand new glock 27.

in the end i was faster and more accurate with the glock 27. i ended up selling the hk.

if you want a "glock-like" trigger in a p2000 just get the LEM DOA trigger setup.
glocks are great guns and everything, but HK's have a certain quality to them. the only gun i've held with a nicer finish than the newer HK's out there (p2000, hk45, p30) was an ed brown 1911, and we're talking about a $2000+ gun.
if you're ok with your glock i wouldn't get another carry piece. if you just have an HK itch that you cant scratch just get a P30 and play with it at the range. you'll still have your carry piece and an amazing shooting 9mm to play with at the range.
Or get the HK45 :). it's the best feeling polymer .45 i've ever shot. it has the exact same grip angle as a 1911 and the safety is even in the same spot.

Okay I will say this...

For conceal I agree go with the Glock, but I also have to say that it depends on what else you might like in a firearm. Cause I would go with the HK, although the P2K isn't really one of my favorites from them, I would still go with it IMHO.

*SIGH* none the less I vote for the Glock :banghead: :cuss:

BTW if you wanted a light attachment you'd have to go with the HK from these photos alone. Also how much you looking to spend???

The sub Glocks can also have a similar extension on them:

I own and carry both, also in SmartCarry and IWB 3:30 - 4:00.

I find the HK P2000SK "feels" more concealed/concealable. Dunno if it's the slightly rounded slide or what, but it is more comfortable to carry.

I'm a holster junkie so I use:

Milt Sparks Versa Max II
AJK Concealco IWB
Crossbreed SuperTuck
Comp-Tac C.T.A.C
Comp-Tac Minatour
Galco MX7
High Noon Mr. Softy
Matt Del Fatti ISP
SmartCarry
Galco Bellyband
...

depending on my mood, and I usually (not always) pick the P2000SK.

The grip on the HK is radically more form fitting to my hand FWIW.

The G26 with the GAP floorplate is really, really small and concealable. The P2000sk is very close with the flat floorplate (not the one with the extension)

Thanks, Catalina!

I own and carry both, also in SmartCarry and IWB 3:30 - 4:00.

Can't ask for a more credible opinion than that! Do you use the same size SmartCarry for both? Xtra-small I think Charlie sent me for the Glock 26...

The grip on the HK is radically more form fitting to my hand FWIW.

A $125 grip reduction job on the Glock is another plan I'm scheming (wouldn't do both - need to make the 26 how I want it, or swap it)

G26 with the GAP floorplate

I put these on, then took them back off (same with Pearce +1). They are not bad, but they didn't add anything for me, so I went back to stock.
