I've searched on the auction sites but I thought to also ask the resident experts on THR. I'm trying to determine the value of a Browning Hi-Power Mk II with original finish, four mags, three factory 13 rounders, and one aftermarket 20 rounder, original box and papers. I would rate the pistol at around +90% condition.

Thanks for the help.

It's going to depend on location, etc. The Mark II does have some minor collector value but only in the sense that it's not being made anymore and there are BHP collectors that want one in their collection.

I've typically seen them go for $600-750 with two mags, add another $20 per mag if they are Browning/MecGar.

I'd expect to pay $600-650 personally.

The MkII is a good setup with the modern ambi safety, enlarged sights, etc. Some have a very nice business like parkerized finish.

If I only had one BHP I would choose a MkIII personally because I don't love the raised rib on top of the slide, I prefer the larger sights and dovetailed front sight compared to the MkII. All but the first few years of the MkIII have the cast frame which should be slightly more durable if digesting a bunch of ammo. Of course these are just my preferences and if you already are aware of all this, then just ignore me.

But I wouldn't turn down a MkII for the right price...good pistols for sure.

Hope that helps.

First, are the 'grips' wood, or an ambidexterous plastic thumb rest type?
Second, do the "factory" magazines, have a little square spring, on the back of the base plate?
Third, should you purchase it, (the price about right), do you intend to use Plus-P ammunition in it? According to Mr. Camp's book, this is a BHP model that is not built to withstand Plus-P ammunition in great numbers, causing a cracking on the underside of the slide mechanism. It will accept most standard pressure ball ammunition, and some standard-pressure defense ammunition, but watch how the bullet is shaped, i.e., roundish vs. squared.

I have a MKII, and a lovingly 'fugly digi-camo' MKIII. They are enough 'gun' for my needs.

$600 +/-. Mec-Gar mags are good and don't cost a lot. OEM mags are good and do cost a lot. With one the mags, I would say about $575.

$600 would be paying about 60% of what a NIB gun costs, and I think that's fair for a 90% BHP. A LGS would only offer $525 +/- for it and try to get about $729 for it, but they have bills and employees to pay.

It comes with the black plastic military grips. The mags don't have the mousetrap spring, they're the original style but with factory rubber base plates. I would be out $650 with shipping plus FFL fees.
