State College is a very liberal area due to the university. However, hunting and shooting is very popular. It was not long ago that hunter safety classes were taught in area schools. Of course, allow the competition.

I voted and here was my comment:

If people would take the time to do a little research they would quickly discover there is one and only one, scholastic sport that has never had a death or even major injury by a participant. That sport, Shooting, and I'm not talking about BB guns or even pellet guns. I'm talking about .22 caliber rifles. Virtually every major city had several high schools with rifle teams and many had their own shooting ranges. Why, because it was this 'Nation of Riflemen' that had saved Europe in the "Great War/War to end all Wars", also known as WW I. It was the same "Nation of Rifelmen" that came to the rescue of Europe and most of Asia during WW II. However sometime during the Cold War some people started a move to eliminate this Nation of Riflemen and have almost done it by making schools administrators and officials scared of their own shadow. I just wonder how long it is going to take for school administrators to ban pens, pencils, paint brushes, erasers, violin/viola/cello bows, drumsticks and anything else that might cause injury. Did I forget to mention all the tools in a shop?

And as time runs out, the score is Zero Tolerance 1, The Children 0.

The idiots on the school board decided that granting an exception to their ZT policy would just be too confusing, so they said no.

Not really a big deal, though. Ernie found a better place about 1/2 hr away, so The Children will get to compete, and the frightened sheep on the school board can stay safely away from all the scary boys and girls with their horrible guns.

Its probably better off anyway, they would have come up with so many hoops for us to jump through, they'd have ruined it for the kids in the end.

some body commented on bb guns looking real and it being easy for a kid to bring in a real rifle and 'settle a score'. ***.

Too confusing? You gotta be kidding me! Do these people HONESTLY think that a kid is gonna take his .22lr to school and say, "Well, you let Mikey take his rifle to school for a specially sanctioned, supervised competition on that one particular day, so why won't you let me take my rifle to school any old time I want? It's NOT FAIR!"

So, to those people who make mention of the dumbing down of our school children, the simple answer is "garbage in, garbage out."

You gotta understand the lib mentality thats prevalent here. They were more concerned with the ramifications of granting an exception to their ZT policy.

Here's a link to the story from yesterday's paper. What a bunch of morons!
