I was reading the new issue of the Rifleman, and really was shocked to find out that the NRA has 4 million members. However, there are 80 million gun owners!

Look, we can't have 4 million members defending another 76 million gun owners. The NRA is the biggest organization for protection of the 2nd ammendment.

I have my qualms with them, not always in agreement with everything they say. I know that there are other organizations that are wonderful also. They are not as effective and respected as the NRA.

I have a VERY low budget with my family growing, but we still find the 35 dollars to get our year again. You get an extra 1000 dollars in insurance for your guns so that alone is a great benifit. There are plenty of discount offers also.

So I beg everyone who is not a member, PLEASE JOIN THE NRA. If you're already a member, push your friends and family to join.

p.s. I know I sounded a bit like John Sigler, but it couldn't be avoided! :)

This was posted awhile back. Looks like it's still in effect.

So even if you can't manage the dues in these hard times, you can still help with membership headcount. I signed up a few friends with this, and it took just a couple mintes.

yes, join.....they have sane views on what is realistic and what is not realistic and do a good job of navigating Washington to fight on our behalf.

I'd give the NRA money if they stuck to their mission statement. But they've instead become a propaganda wing of the Republican Party. Not to mention gleefully fanning the flames of paranoia that led to the current shortages and price gouging.

The NRA doesn't support me. So I won't support them. When they support the 2nd as written they will get my money. I am a member of GOA however, so I do support the cause.

A thousand times this.

That "Obama's 10 step plan" card thing they did really pissed me off. Disgusting fear mongering and outright lies.

Disgusting fear mongering and outright lies

Don't go to a gunfight with a knife..

Anti-gun people aren't lying, fortunately..

You may disagree with the NRA on many points, but they are the BEST way to preserve your RIGHTS !

GOA ? fine.. + (free) NRA would be even better.

Ya can't buy any ammo, or reloading supplies so ya might as well spend a couple of bucks and join. They may not meet all your expectations, but they sure try harder than anybody else.

Try to be the straw that broke the camels back.

This is a post on another thread about types of gun owners and the is some pertinent stuff about joining or not joining the NRA.

The link is good reading.

Which kind of gun owner are you?

By Steven Loos/kotoc

Having spent a fair amount of my impressionable years shooting alongside my WW2 veteran grandfather, I was fortunate to have been taught early on the great responsibility that owning a firearm brings.

As far back as I can recall I have always understood owning a firearm had a deeper meaning. Later in life, and much to my surprise, I would come to understand that not all owners share this belief.

During Ohioans' struggle to pass common-sense concealed carry legislation, I had the good fortune to join in the fight as a volunteer. While continuing the good work of defending the Second Amendment alongside incredibly dedicated activists, I have interacted with many firearm owners.

Gun owners come from all walks of life. We may be politician, police officer or plumber. Statistically we are the most law-abiding segment of society. Interestingly, among the gun owning public, I've encountered three distinct kinds of gun owners. Although there are variations in each subset, what follows is in my opinion the general categories that most gun owners fall into:

The Casual Gun Owner
The Belligerent Gun Owner
The Dedicated Defender of Gun Rights

LOOK===If you stayed a member for 5 years you can VOTE for the board--Then you can vote out the guys you dont like !!

SO see the above statement --GOA is good -BUT they arnt the 800lb gorilla in the tent--YOU need to belong to each and every org there is today --AT todays ammo prices you can join for the cost of a couple of boxes of ammo-!!

Im so sick and tired of pulling the wagon full of millions of do nothing gun owners [ Im going to Albany next wed, to Lobby -I put My money where my mouth is !]:cuss:

I don't understand.

I am a member of the NRA, but they still irked me - and I agree with a poster above who said they need to get back on message.

A little inside information that may of interest......since the election, NRA memberships have gone through the roof, there will soon be 5,000,000 members.

GOA? do they even have a permanent lobbyist up on the Hill?

why do you think those up on the Hill distanced themselves from the AG with his rhetoric on bringing back the AWB II? Fear of the GOA ? LMAOOOO

try fear of the NRA. And if you don't like some of the things they do, become active and involved in the organization.

What outright lies? The list was accurate and truthful
Hardly.

I could go on.

The thing with Obama is he buys into the whole HURR ASSAULT RIFLES HURR Bull that Diane Feinstein and her ignorant bunch spout. He's not quite the raving anti-gun lunatic that he's portrayed as, sure he has some disquieting beliefs.

I'm a member because I have to be (to maintain my gun-club membership). Otherwise, I wouldn't. That "800 lb. gorilla" thing is pretty tired. If you mean the 800 lb. gorilla that has been trained to refill drinks and get more butter, then I might agree. They have very little political value anymore. They'll compromise us down to nothing in order to keep their own interests alive. They wanted nothing to do with Heller (until the heavy lifting was done). They were positive on a change in MN transport law that might divide us. I don't want to get into the details here, but it's a damaging compromise, and they played along like idiots. I'm sick of them.

All the GOA does is try to tear down all the other pro gun rights organizations, including the NRA.
Most politicians don't give a rip what the GOA does or thinks. However they do pay attention when the NRA speaks.
Who irritates the gun grabbers most? GOA? Nope....Nada!! It's the NRA!!
The GOA should try to actually do something!

if you mention GOA to a lawmaker, they will probably either ask you if you meant the GOP or GAO (Gov't Accountability Office)!!!!

why do you think AWB II hasn't been passed yet? NRA....
