Please recomend loads and ball size for .36 cal Remmy

I just paid for a Pietta 1858 Remington Navy .36 cal through Gun Broker. while I wait for it to arrive I'ld like to get some recomendations on loads and specificaly ball size as I'ld like to pick up what I need to shoot it before it arrives.
I started my 13 year old shooting the .44 Remmy last year but she says it's a little heavy. She's been helping me make up paper cartridges for the .44 so I thought I'ld surprise her with the .36.

The Pietta .36 Remington uses .375 round balls.
.380's can also be used but those are usually cast.
The average load is about 20 grains, some use 17.

I'll be using 20 grains fffg and a .380 rb when my new .36 Remmie shows up; cause that's what spout is on my flask and the size rbs I use on my other .36s.

A 380 ball seals better.

Both Uberti and Pietta make the 36 Navy on the 44 Army frame, other than the shorter barrel, they are the same. The 36 is likely to weigh more than the 44....

Hmm.

My Pietta 1858 New Navy has grips and frame that are easily smaller than my ASP (Euroarms) 1858 New Army. Admittedly I don't have a Pietta New Army to compare to, but I believe both the ASP and Pietta New Army guns are faithful to the original Remington New Army as far as size and shape are concerned.



I think there's a real chance the Navy will be smaller.

except for the missing trigger guard. I think the .31 Remmie is more of an experts only gun....I like 'em a lot, but I'm not sure about them around any but the most advanced youngsters.

The current production Pietta .36 Remingtons are built on the same frame as the .44s. The .36s are heavier than the .44s.

If the Pietta is too heavy for your daughter you might try something like a replica of the Colt 1862 Pocket Police or Pocket Navy, both in .36 but built on the .31 size frame.

I've been shooting 24 grains of 3Fg Goex, a Wonder Wad, and a .380 ball in my Pietta .36, with good accuracy. I have some .375s which didn't group well in my Uberti 1851 Navy that I plan to try in the Pietta.

Can any of you tell me the inside diameter of the chambers? I'ld like to pick up a dowel and taper it to roll up some paper cartridges.

Might I suggest a Baby Dragoon?
Mine is .31 cal, cute as a button, and light as a feather. Should fit small girl hands nicely. And it has a trigger guard.

The chambers on my Pietta 1858 New Navy, built in 1981, are 0.370" in diameter. However, I highly recommend you get a set of calipers and check your gun's chambers. Chamber diameters have a way of varying over the years. The easiest way to do that is to swage an oversized ball into the chamber, then force it back out with a dowel or punch through the nipple hole and measure the diameter of the swaged ball.

My Uberti Navy seems to like 375 + lubed wad + 21.3 gr. of Swiss 3f.

Shooting .380 balls in .36's has been suggested in several posts.
I just recieved some .380 dia pure lead balls and am really excited to try them out!
My Uberti London has one loose chamber that allows tthe ball to creep a tiny bit. I am sure these new larger balls will "fit" the chambers tighter as there is more ball to work with for a good tight seal.
Soon as i get the hand replaced, I'll know if this theroy works?
I know that when you load the balls they get individuqlly swaged to the ccylinder's size and the little ring of lead on some revolvers isn;t always a complete circle. Perhaps those cylinders need oversized balls to start with?
