Not to be rude, but I'm only interested in the experiences of individuals who've actually owned or extensively fired/carried a Jericho 141 or Baby Eagle. Thanks.

How reliable are the Magnum Research Baby Eagles ?

How would you rate their build quality ?

Any customer service experiences with Magnum Research ?

I'd be particularly interested in hearing from .40 S&W and .45acp owners.

Thanks.

I had a full size and a semi-compact. The build quality was excellent, among the finest of all the handguns I have owned. They were also accurate and reliable. I just could not live with the slide mounted safety. On a Beretta, Ruger, or S&W these are not so much of a problem but on the BE, with its slide in frame design, I kept tripping the safety while racking the slide.

I had a full size Jericho 941 in steel. Its a great gun; easy to shoot and accurate. Very similar to the CZ 75 design. Very well built. All around great, no complaints. I just prefer guns without safeties so I sold it cheap to a buddy without a gun.

The 941 was designed around the 9mm and .41 action express calibers so while it makes sense in .40sw I would be cautious of the .45 caliber models.

Do a search. There is a member who has talked his ears off about the Baby and Desert Eagle.

Baby Eagle

I have the Full size Baby Eagle but, in 9mm.
I've owned it for approx. 10 years. This is an older one from IMI. Workmanship is excellent. Probably put 1,000 rds thru her. I've NEVER had a malfunction. I've used every type of ammo under the sun, including the frangibles (I use 62gn Magsafe's for home loads). I like the slide mounted safety/decocker. Good sights. Has a small sized butt for my smaller sized hands. She's all steel (no plastic for me).
I'd buy another one in .45ACP - BUT, accessories are hard to find.

I owned a full sized steel Baby Eagle in .40 S&W at one time.

I paid $350 for it used.

It was reliable, accurate and durable.

Build quality was good for a production gun.

It carried well, being slender.

I did not care for the trigger.

The parkerized finish was hard wearing.

Holsters were difficult to find.

Accessories such as replacement sights were non-existant.

I ended up trading it off with a couple of other guns when I found a Gold Cup I wanted.

The dealer tried to talk it down by claiming the recoil spring felt weak. He was wrong.

hi all first post. In fact i was browsing this site on my ipod touch about to go to sleep when i saw this post and had to register to comment.

I love the baby eagle .45. My neighbor and my best friend have one. I shoot that gun better than any other gun ive ever shot. It will most likely be my next handgun purchase.

A friend had one in .40S&W caliber.

I remember it was a pretty decent handgun to shoot. No issues at all if I recall. Shot great and reliable too.

Lets start from the beginning: this is an original producer of "Baby Eagle"/Jericho 941 http://www.israel-weapon.com/ IWI former IMI small firearms division.

Official sidearm for Israeli National Police , Border Guards and Prison Service.

In Police version (SA , no manual safety, 5inch) - superb accuracy , very light trigger.

Reliable, you can be sure it will go Bang when you need it, with proper treatment of course like any other pistol.

Heavy - 1.2kg (+/-) full size loaded in 9mm, but because of its weight even small and gentle female police officers (18-22yrs old grls) can fire it and hit
the target.

Polymer version is less favorable here in private market (GlockLand) but used
by several government agencies and Mezada Unit (Israel Prison Service SWAT Team).

Pricey even here, thats one the reasons for a GlockLand probably.

No special problems with accessories or after market parts (Tangfolio is very close relative of Jericho). Holsters can be found for any wallet Kydex and Leather.

41AE cartridge is dead but technical potential ( 941 means 9 and 41 - both calibers on same platform, just change a barrel ) created versions chambered with 40SW and 45 ACP etc.

My friend has one. It is a very nice gun. VERY smooth operation, and very low recoil. When I pulled it trigger it was buttery smooth and every time a round went off the slide would just glide back freely and perfectly. Nothing felt in any way wrong, or choppy about the gun.

It was large and heavy for a 9mm though. Very thick. But that's probably one of the reasons that recoil is low, and reliability is extremely high.

My dad had a full size baby eagle in .40 and I guess we just got the lemon of the bunch. We put over 1000 rounds through that thing and had a FTF with almost every magazine.

The gun was NIB when purchased, using factory reloads:rolleyes:, with the factory mags. He sent it to his shop on multiple occasions for a polish job, but it never seemed to solve the issue.

Like I said, I guess we got the 1 lemon out there.

I owned the old Jehrico 941 suitcase/kit with both the 9mm and the 41AE. The gun was heavy but a great shooter, it was very comfortable to shoot in 9mm. The 41AE was quite crisp and had a good deal of snap to it, apart from the round being all but extinct it was an interesting caliber.

I have considered getting another one but as someone else stated I am also not fond of guns with external safeties.

I own a compact in 9mm, for the money its by far the best gun I own.

I would rate it with any big names like HK and sig as far as quality and reliability. Never had any hiccups even while breaking it in.

I also find it to be a natural pointer with good stock sights, I can consistanly hit in or near the same hole at 30 feet if I take my time :neener:

My friend has both a sig and a walther and he admits to being rather jealous of my performance/cost ratio with the eagle

My wife has a 9mm Baby Eagle Compact that has been outstanding (she uses it for CCW).. To date, no failures of any kind. Shoots accurately. Has the Trijicon 3-dots. Great little gun.

I bought one (all steel, 40S&W) for my wife; well that's what I told her. Being a 1911 guy, I hated the slide mounted safety, but I prob could've lived with that. But that huge HUMP at the bottom rear of the grip just drove me batty. Excellent build quality, very accurate, and zero malfunctions in the 1200 or so rounds I put through it. Truth was though, it was too much gun for my wife; dimensionally and recoil. So I traded it and a few bucks for a little 8 rounder S&W 9mm for her (3908?).
The baby eagle we had was made by IMI, and if you're not genetically encoded for 1911s, and you don't mind the hump, I would highly reccomend it.

Trillium, are baby Eagles in other than the 9x19 chambering rare in Israel? I have the .40, I find it strange the magnum research site says not to use +P ammo in a baby eagle, they are rather heavy all steel guns.

I'd like to get a 9mm version, I don't like the short barrels on the .45acp versions.

Moonclip - yes, i never saw one at the range in 40SW or 45 ACP, so i guess they are rare.

+P Ammo : in 9mm in according to the factory manual in hebrew you may use any SAAMI standardized ammo' that means +P is allowed.
Also clearly stated not to use Uzi 9mm submachine ammunition (+p+).

But in any case try to contact a factory, you may get better answers there :

I own a full size steel 9mm Baby Eagle w/ polygonal barrel. Aprox. 3500 rounds, wolf reduced power mainspring and all factory magazines. Heavy, comfortable to shoot, stiff trigger, good build quality, feeds various ammo, very accurate. Aftermarket is barren. It was problem free until I recently began having slide lock failures.

My only genuine complaint is the double action trigger. Even after internal smoothing and a softer mainspring it is difficult to shoot DA accurately. The rest of the gun is as advertised so you get what you see. I think most CZs, and arguably the EAA Witness series, are better bargains. I've felt some out of the box with better DA triggers.

They are nice guns. I find the triggers on them to be smoother than on the CZ-75b or EAA witness.

The machining is probably a tad cleaner than a cz-75, but not much.

They run reasonably well, and seem to go through slide stops less frequently than the CZs do.

When I first got mine, I had issues with it failing to fire frequently. It turned out to be form machining debris in the firing pin channel.

Although it isn't what I shoot primarily these days, I doubt I will ever sell mine as I like it a lot.

trillium,
Can I read this to say that a 40SW or 45ACP "kit", say a barrel and slide, could fit on an old 941? I assume a slide would be needed, due to the different case head size.
Thanks.
Don

Another +1 for the Baby Eagle. My Baby Eagle sub-compact was my first handgun after I turned 21 which my wife promptly confinscated. The only gun that I have liked as much is my STI Trojan. The gun eats everything you feed it, is VERU accurate and recoil is almost non existent due to its size.

The only 2 cons I can come up with is the finish is not Tennifer and the barrel uses polygonal rifling so you probably ought not use lead reloads.

Justin

I bought a full size baby eagle in 9mm at the beginning of this year, I have since put about 2500 rounds through it with no problems. I love the accuracy and the feel of the full size gun. If you get one, do yourself a favor and get the hogue grips that magnum research sells for it.
