Hi all- I'm preparing to put together a comprehensive HD video and blog post regarding the RCBS lockout die and before I shoot the video, I was wondering if you all have any special setup or operation tricks in your back pocket...

It should be great- I'm going to show disassembly, adjustment, etc.

Here are the current articles so far in this series:

RCBS Lock-Out die—great die!

I found that the instructions suck.
I keep the die loose and when I get a lock-out condition, I turn the die in or out a little and that always unlocks it. I then pull that case and weigh it. So far, every time, the weight has been correct, just a effect from a different case volume I assume. I think the darn thing is so sensitive that you could "ALMOST" use it to verify that you have the correct weight.
I really like the die and them on my 1050s.

When you get the video done I'll be grateful for your work. "The instructions suck" is an understatement. I gave up trying to make it work and went back to the Hornady Powder Cop. It now lays in the dark corner reserved for all the other "innovations" (like the Hornady Powder Thru Expanders) I've purchased and can't make work satisfactorily.

I simply get a charge to where I want it and fill a case. Then I take the case and place it under the lock out die so it just touches the metal portion on the underside of the die. I then adjust the stem of the die so that it the line on the stem comes about half way out of the die. That seems to give me a +/- 2gr window on 9mm cases. That is a lot of powder in either direction but it's (nearly) impossible to not fill or double charge a case.

My only difficulty was adjusting it the first time -- the threads were really tight on the rod. Other than that, it works perfectly for me. I adjust it as mentioned before (the line centered coming out of the top of the die) and never get a false lockout. This is with .357 Mag.
