Please!

First of all because they aren't and second because it just give those that hate an easy in. Let's not enable those that seek to take something away from us.

Yes many enjoy many aspects of them but that does NOT make them a toy.

Just my $.02

Mike

for alot of people they are just that though. Especially the third or fifth one.
Toys that need to be treated with respect but still toys.

Does that mean I have to stop calling my safe a toy box? Those that hate have an "in" regardless of what we call them. The way I see it, me taking my sons out shooting now is no different than me digging around in the dirt with tonka trucks with them when they were little in terms of purpose and enjoyment.

No.

They are toys. That's not all they are, but that's enough.

The term that people need to start thinking about is prior restraint.

My computer is a toy. My computer cann be used to publish material that would be banned even with all my 1a rights. Taking away my computer just because I might publish something is prior restraint, which is generally frowned upon in constitutional circles. Why are guns different?

If you think you are addressing me/what I posted we're talking past each other because I used the 1a only as an analogy to the 2a.

My chainsaw, axes, machete's, knives, lawn mower, power tools, etc... and firearms are my toys. I own them for utility and also enjoyment. I also use them all safely for their intended purpose.

Nope. My NAA mini revolver is a toy. A potentially deadly one maybe, but for my purposes a toy and nothing more.

sent from my Galaxy Note II.

Some of my toys:
firearms
a boat
fishing gear
motorcycles
couple three 4WDs
knives
toy trucks
airsoft
stereos
and doubtless many more.

I'm a guy and it seems that most anything I have which is not directly related to family comfort, health and a secure lifestyle gets identified as a toy by others as well as myself.

For my part, I'm stone sick and tired of being told to worry about what "they" are going to use to advance their agenda. I'm going to continue to live my life as I see fit knowing that those opposed to my positions or activities aren't even going to get the little victories of forcing me to alter my conduct nor will I play the role of an appeaser weasel - continually scouring the world for bad "ambassadors" for any of the activities in which I engage.

Mine are all responsible adult toys, I went way past home defense volume a long time ago. I have them because I enjoy them. My boats are toys, my cars are toys, and the guns are toys. Words and phrases can always be twisted, I don't worry about it.

If he with the most toys wins, then I may not win, but I sure will try!

Don't get me wrong, I see guns (in a general sense) as tools, but there are some real cool tools out there. They can certainly qualify as toys. Further more I don't see anything wrong with others who don't see them as I do, its supposed to be a free country. So I have no problem with calling them toys, seeing them as toys, referencing them as toys. Same goes for cans, mags, stocks, or any other gun related items. Part of the cool part of being in America (at least until the Nanny state takes completely over).

Yes many enjoy many aspects of them but that does NOT make them a toy.

Toy, Modern Sporting Rifle, etc, etc. Why are so many gun owners determined to try to manipulate the english language in an attempt to justify their guns?

It isn't hard to look up the definition of "toy" and see if your firearm also meets that definition. Trying to deny to the rest of the world that it doesn't just makes you look silly.

Spent all afternoon with my granddaughter and a couple of friends playing with our toys. Yes, they were also firearms.

Definition of toy
noun
an object, especially a gadget or machine, regarded as providing amusement for an adult

I move that we stop calling the Prius a car.

And stop calling veggie sticks a snack.

And stop calling Feinstein a woman.

Just is someone calls it a toy, doesn't mean it can't save your butt if needed.

I don't care about a bad name or any of that. All of my "toys" are legal and used in a completely legal and responsible way. If the name I refer to my "toys" offends people I really don't care.

This dispute is about the semantics of the word "toy." If you believe that a "toy" is an unserious plaything, then the application of that term to a gun is wrong. On the other hand, if a "toy" is anything that is enjoyable, then that term might fit guns, in certain circumstances. Bear in mind also that while gun enthusiasts might refer to their guns as "toys," people not into guns so much might find such a reference disturbing. I think we need to be careful here, when talking to the general public.

The general public is totally accustomed to everything from latex balloons to billion dollar yachts, from beanie babies to combat jet aircraft, being referred to as toys.

The only real question is whether it is deprecation or self-deprecation.

I'll call them what I like, thanks. I don't live my life by what the self appointed PC police dictates.
