Please tell me about the Star Model B

I recently learned of the existence of the spanish made Star Model B and would like some additional info. How reliable, durable, and accurate is the Model B? Is it a "quality", well made pistol? How difficult is it to find parts, such as springs, grips, mags ect... for the Model B? Anyone know who sells or where I can buy a (surplus?) Model B (9mm Luger/Parabellum) in very good to excellent condition? Thanks.

They are reliable and accurate. It was the Spanish police pistol for many years. Durable as well. Not up to Glock standards but for a gun made from the 30s through the 60/70s, very good.

It's basically a miniature 1911 in 9mm without a grip safety. Nice little shooters.

Parts are out there (Model B's have been around for a long time) though not as common as 1911 or Glock or Sig parts, they're not exactly scarce either.

Some places sell them online, check your local gunshop. Mine had two. $200 and they were in good condition. I didn't have $200 or I would have bought one. I've shot a couple BMs and B's and they're nice plinkers. I would choose something else for carry/duty use because there are better choices, but it remains an excellent gun for it's size.

That's the BM, the compact available from J&G for $140 or so. The B and Super B are full size pistols based on the 1911 that are usually in calibers like 9mm Largo, or something equally hard to find. There's nothing at all wrong wth them - Star made a good solid pistol, and they will last longer than you, properly maintained.

Model B and Model Super B can be found in calibers .38 Suoer, 9mm Largo, and 9mm Parabellum.
Both models look like 1911s but there are enough differences that parts will not interchange.
The Super B features strengthened slide and frame rails and a quick takedown lever that functions the same as the Beretta M92s.
Super Bs in 9mm Largo usually interchange .38 Super loads just fine especially if you replace the old recoil springs with fresh ones from Wolff Gunspring.
9MM Largo is still available in quantity but if you reload you can simply load light .38 acp load levels in .38 Super cases with 124 grain bullets and they will function just fine in the Largos.

If you choose to get one, DO NOT DRYFIRE IT, as that will break the firing pin. I'd stock up on an extra firing pin because of that, too. Also, the one my wife had would not feed HP ammunition.

On the positive side, if you have small hands, this puppy will likely fit yours like a charm. It's very easy to take down and clean, as well.

I found the Super B less reliable than the BM and BKM. The easy takedown of the Super B was a real plus, however.

The BM's are very nice little guns - great feel (thinner than a 1911), good triggers, and good accuracy.
