I don't know if its odd that I ALWAYS have my pack with me. Some of the people I know say it is. I don't wear it on my back constantly, I just have to have it every time I leave my house. I carry it to work as well. I work in a jail and need most all of the items in it on a daily basis.
It's a Condor Level III Advanced Assault bag I got from Cheaper Than Dirt for $20. It was so cheap due to it having a factory messup on it somewhere. The only thing I could find was an oil stain on the back part of it. Anyhow, here are its contents (certain items removed when at work)=

- Small bottom pouch, x2 mechanical pencils, x2 G2 pens, spare change, phone charger/usb cord, x2 Box lighters, CRKT Eat-N-Tool w/ a p-28 can opener attached, CRKT Tobar Spare Tool, small folding knife w/ pocket clip, small nail clippers, bottle of hand sanitizer, lose para cord, Sharpie.
-Small upper pocket= Chapstick, roll of electrical tape, x2 rolls of medical tape, 5 pack of Goodys powders, x5 "Singles to go" Hawaiian Punch packets, pack of floss picks, small Altoid can of ibuprofen and naproxen.
-Medium middle pocket= (small netting pocket at top)= Gerber Mini-Suspension multi-tool set (pliers, scissors), extra id card/ department I'd card, Avoid can I.F.A.K. (Individual First Aid Kit for those who didn't know), small lengths of 1/16 camping cord./ Big compartment= Husky micro screwdriver set, notebooks, ruler, Taurus .38 revolver w/ extra ammo, Benchmade fixed blade knife.
-Large back pocket= Netbook, Netbook charger, trackball mouse, reading material, x2 bottles of water, usually x3 cans of tuna, blank copy paper.
-Canteen/dump molle pouch (if needed)= I usually put whatever I need for any projects I'm doing for someone that's not at my house in this pouch. (Dremal tool w/ attachments, sharpening kit, micro file set, etc)

I also have a sheet of kevlar fitted into the camel back pouch.

That's about it for my bag. I don't find it strange but maybe you do.
I welcome any comments/ criticizim. I wouldn't have posted if not expecting either.

I considered a pack, but found that I would inevitably get distracted with my 3 year old, leaving the pack unattended. A firearm is not something to lose control or attention of.

Few people I know care much for off-body carry- too much of a chance of getting separated from the firearm in various ways. Other than that, carrying a man purse isn't that unusual :D.

don't know anyone that carries a pack but know somebody that has a fanny pack. My dentist and me

I live my life first, and I take reasonable safety measures based on my environment and skills.

I don't like to lug stuff around just to be prepared. I will take my chances with what I have on my body.

Even on a firescene or EMS scene I only carry what I need.

OK, respectfully noted.

I had a little ignorant chuckle to myself there.

Comment retracted.

I carry a backpack with me at work. I can't keep a gun in there b/c I'm always in secured areas of private property, no carrying allowed. There's nothing wrong with toting a back-pack around with you, it's convenient to have all your stuff in one place, and gives extra space for extra "stuff." For me, that's a few books/notebooks, various offshore suplies, bulky keys to stuff that I don't need enough to carry in my pocket everyday, extra wire/tape/voltmeter etc. Mostly work stuff. You got me thinking that a first aid kit might not be a bad addition, but they are everywhere at work.

I understand everything you carry. A few notes:

That sounds like a lot of tools, etc. Heavy. Do you really use every tool every day?

I understand the snacks, but 3 cans of tuna? I know guys that snack on tuna, and they don't eat more than one in a sitting. Is there a deep snowy ravine between work and home? Canned tuna is heavy. You might want to consider the tuna in a juiceless foil pouch.

Is it legal to carry a fixed blade where you live? Some states frown on that.

I'd move my gun out of my pack, and onto my hip. YMMV.

I mentioned nothing about what I carry on my person. I'm always armed with my side arm. I just listed things in the bag. As far as the tuna, 2 cans in one sitting and later on in my shift (if at work) ill have the third as a snack. Fixed blades are fine in Ga. As far as the tools, they get used all of the time due to me being the only one with them..

You carry all that stuff IN A JAIL? I've worked in prisons for almost 10 years, and half of that list would be a no go, OVER half, including every took and bladed instrument, and every thing in a metal can. The cell phone stuff is a big no-no, too, with the prevelance of cell phones as contraband on the yard. The bag itself is a no-go, as we required clear or mesh bags that can be seen into easily.
You have a very easy going institution if this is what you take to work. My work bag has a small medical kit, my lunch, and my IIIA vest, in case I get called to go on an outside transport - the state issued vests are foul. Personal sidearm and multitool goes into the gun locker on the way in the institution - I get issued a sidearm to use on duty.

I use a bag for work, one of those computer carry bags into which I put everything I might need. Except my weapon. Just as a woman should not carry a weapon in her purse that goes for "man bags" as well . That's the first thing the BG is gonna grab.

If someone can snatch and run my back pack off of my back (which is normally is clipped around my chest) then they can have it. Not to mention I have my duty weapon on me at all times. As far as the items that aren't suppose to be in the jail, I remove them when taking it to work....

That's a lot of "stuff" to lug around and there's a lot of redundancy. You haven't explained why you carry the pack or the contents so it seems strange without offering what the plan is for carrying all that.

I sometimes carry a backpack. Books for the day & computer for class usually nothing more. I don't know how you could carry it all the time. Just having it for a few hours at a time is a PITA for me.

Same with stuff in my pockets. Phone, wallet, and keys are enough to drive me nuts. If I do have a bag, everything above goes in it besides the phone. I find no need for a survival kit when going about my day to day business.

If I was going to be camping for a week then I would take a bunch of stuff, but other wise, NO WAY.

PS. Probably carry a gun in a couple years when possible. But as of right now, I don't see myself carring 2 extra mags and an attached weapon light.

Calling bs on how I wear my bag? A level III "assault" pack is kinda uncomfortable on the shoulder straps if the chest strap isn't connected. And I usually do have Glock 22 with me. I'm sorry if you don't believe me.... as far as the odd things I have in the bag, well, if someone needs something fixed I usually can do it with my screwdriver set. As far as the Netbook or reading material, I get bored on long, uneventful nights. I'll do my best to upload pics when I'm able to.

If you'll notice, before I listed the items in my bag I mentioned in parentheses that I remove certain things BEFORE I GO INTO WORK. That usually includes guns.... when I say I have a side arm on me I'm referring to being in public.

"just move the bag off the chair" he said, and I noticed 4 rolls of toilet paper in his work bag. I can see keeping one roll in your office, just in case the restroom runs out, and so sure maybe that equals one in your bag, but 4? Truth is stranger than fiction.

I have a daily back pack; nothing survivalist. I got stuff in a filing cabinet at work; I got stuff in my car trunk; I got stuff at home. If I were riding a train or biking to work, I'd probably have more stuff in my bag.

I don't have striking paper in my bag, I'm not that bad I don't think. I can justify everything in my bag though. (to myself of course)
