Plinkington rust blue questiuons

Anyone experienced with this method? How well Must you polish the
parts to get it to take? Can it be matched to older finish if I just want
to refinish selected parts? Is there a durable product with less fuss
involved?

Any input is appreciated. I did a search but the pickings are pretty slim.
The instructions seem like you have to almost make a career of it.

The better the prep job the better the finish.And yes I have used it.It is time consuming to use the pilkington solution but if done properly produces a nice color and more durable than hot blue.

Cleanliness and degreasing is the secret,as well as allowing the steel to get hot enough between applications.

Use in well ventilated area as it is a STRONG CHEMICAL!

If you are going to the trouble of doing the job do not skimp out on the prep work.

Ask a auto body man how important is the prep work.

I use it also, and it's a wonderful finish-a soft luster and very durable. Chris is 100% right-prep work and attention to detail are the keys. Give it a try.

laurel mountain forge brand works almost as good but is much easier to use as it has a detergent built in so you dont have to worry as much about small amounts of oils that might contaminate your parts....

I'll post results of what and how I make out.
If I screw it up or It comes out great. Seems
to me many people would be interested in an
amateur's attempt at metal finishing/refinishing.
Even just for the chukle if I blow it.
