Pls help me identify classic American guns ready for duty

The AR-10 was introduced in 1956. I would argue that it has been improved significantly since then. I haven't shot one of the originals, but I very much enjoy my AR-10 pattern rifles.

CTD has a lot of old Gun Digest and period magazines as PDF's you can look at for free. It's a resource I've never tapped before.

In 1953 the pickings were slim for NEW American made semi automatic centerfire pistols.
