I was told something recently as I was getting my wife a general POA. Im hoping it was a joke but they said that with a general POA she could buy firearms in my name. I would assume this is untrue but does anyone know for sure.
The only way a person might be able to obtain guns using a power of attorney is if the guns were left as an inheritance. The person might be able to use the power of attorney to retrieve the guns from the deceased's estate because no form 4473 or NICS check is required in that case. But the guns would still not be "in anyone's name" until they were registered if the person was resident of one of the very few states that require registration.
Gun's being "registered" and "in someone's name" is 99% myth perpetuated by fictional TV crime shows.
