I am in the market for no more than $460 looking at the ruger lcp, mr micro desert eagle, and bersa thunder. Anyone take a quick pick out of those three and why?

ThunderStruck!

I love my Bersa Thunder 380. It is amazingly accurate and has little recoil.
It is not as small as the LCP but I get my pinky on the grip.
From what I hear, the LCP can be a bit snappy and not much fun on the range. But I can shoot my Bersa all day.

Some you forgot. Don't know if they were able to be added to the list.

1. Keltec p3at-the most copied gun out there!

2. Taurus is soon to come out with a micro pistol in .380 (738T). Looks different than any other company I've seen, and holds 7 in the mag.

Out of your current list, Desert Eagle, because it's a Desert Eagle. :)

Dont overlook a Kahr mk9 or pm9. But, out of you list i would get an lcp or p3at. either way good luck on your purchase

You can leave out the Desert Eagle as the price is about $539. At least around here that's the going price. If I were you before you buy ask if they have any .380 ammo. Why buy a gun if you can't get ammo for it. LM

here in austin the micro eagle is 458 and ammo is available. trying to get a range test together today to finalize my decision

If you truly want a POCKET .380, don't go with the Bersa. It is a fine gun, but not what I would call a pocket pistol. The Ruger LCP is a good gun for a pocket, and they generally get good reviews. I have had issues with mine, but I think I am in the minority on that.

In that case I'd say the Micro Eagle would be the clear choice...

The early reports on that gun are pretty good. At least I know I want one, and this is coming from a PPK/Guardian/LCP owner.

380 related...

Maybe someone can help me out on the 380 auto.
I've read that the 380 doesn't have the stopping power that a PD handgun should. And after talking with a few police officers, bail bonds men and hearing stories from soldiers that fought in Iraq, I'm inclined to believe this. The officers, soldiers and bail bonds men all told horror stories of having been involved in shootings where the suspect fired and fire was returned with 9MM. And in many cases it took multiple 9MM strikes before stopping the suspect. And if cranked up on crack or some other stimulating drug as some of those often times are, well it can be hard to stop them.
So if the 9MM is having trouble, heck the 380 is sure to have a hard time.
I own a great little Beretta model 70 380 pistol. Bought it many, many years ago. But lately I've pulled away from 380 altogether and limited my 9MM carry as well. I sold a pistol I had in 9MM and purchased a model 30 Glock in 45 cal.
Is the 380 something that we should stay away from when it comes to PD?

It comes down to concealability. If you are dressed in attire that you can only hide a pocket pistol with and your options are micro 380 or nothing, what are you gonna do?

I also like the LCP for a BUG to my 45.

For a pocket gun go with the LCP as first choice P3AT as second choice, both the same gun essentially but the Ruger is better finished. Stay away from the Micro Eagle. It is a miserable little gun.

Typing this with a bersa 380 concealed carry model in my jeans.
Due to an injury cant carry my big boys for a while.

Underguned? shot placement is every thing!

buy the lcp, today they are one of the best.

If youywant to spend more the new Kahr P380 is in its one class by itself...

Take this for what it's worth, because I have very little personal experience with a .380...

My concealed carry instructor is an old friend, retired LE, but from what I hear is one of the most highly regarded handgun tactics trainers in my area. He's a Glock fan, but recommends 642/442 for a minimum CCW for folks like me that aren't handgun experts and want a smaller and light CCW.

He always advocated against .380s for SD... "Poor manstopper", and mostly because of poor reliability because small autos just couldn't pack powerful-load function into a shrunken mechanism...

Until he got an LCP.

He's for the first time impressed with a .380 in the LCP, with the newer higher-power SD loads available, and says range experience among both he and his friends at the FOP range has proved the LCP to have reliability that's near flawless. So he now recommends the LCP for when summer-wear requires a SD pistol that is really small and light.

I'm going to get one when the rush wears off.

my .02,
Les

Bersa is a little clunky for a pocket gun.

P3AT 2nd gen are great - not as fit and finished as the LCP, but about $70 less.

Both are great shooters. I have 2 2nd gen P3ATs, might pick up an LCP when the fervor dies down AND after longer term reliability has been tested.

Walther PPK or PPK/S. German- or French-made models are always the first choice, then the Interarms guns that were made in the USA. I wouldn't trade mine for anything else on the market, at any price. But that's just me. The best .380 for you is the one that fits your hand and eye best, the one you shoot reliably and accurately every time, not the one that was recommended to you on a gun board.

i wouldn't trade my ME380 for anything else out there. 100% reliable, built to a higher standard.

I'll second that on the DE Micro. Well built, accurate enough for social work, and small. Of course it is a .380 and the prevailing wisdom on many internet forums is that nothing short of a .45 or preferably a .50 cal will harm a human being. It's really strange because in the city I live in if one follows the nightly shootings and killings (it's a cultural thing), quite often the killing weapon will be described as .380. There is some good .380 SD ammo available these days. I would trust mine.

Prefer revolver

I have the Bersa 380 CC and it is comfortable to shoot, and very good accuracy. It's a bit too heavy for me for pocket carry, but it does disappear well in cargo pants or shorts.

I am happy most of the time with a S&W 332 (32 H&R mag.) in a pocket holster. I know some don't care for the caliber.

qwillys

question on your desert eagle. They show the barrel at 2.2 inches, are they actually counting the chamber area as barrel also. Most guns are not rated that way but it just seems from looking athte photos where the estractor is located at that the barrelis probably only alittle over 1" in length.

Don't know where gwillys is right now but I just measured mine:
barrel length is 2 1/4", .380 is 15/16", I think that leaves 1 5/16"
barrel...I never been very strong in math.

i just mic'd it. 1.60"/40.65mm or 1 9/16" from shoulder to muzzle. i'm not strong in math either, so i cheat :)

stoked with buffalo bore gold dot, its a potent little package. i'd like to try some federal hst, but the planet is devoid of it.
