Pocket Carry, What's a Good Choice?

My "all the time" gun today is an S&W 340SC to which I've fitted Crimson Trace lasergrips. Lightweight, reliable, and pretty powerful . . . at both ends.

I used to have a Kahr P9 . . . a more troublesome, unreliable pocket pistol probably hasn't been made. Numerous problems . . . premature slide lock, failure to go into battery, trigger pin walked out, trigger failed to actuate striker . . . after several unsuccessful attempts to fix it under warranty, Kahr threw in the towel and replaced it.

Don't know how the replacement was, since I immediately traded it, unfired, for a Glock 26. The G26 isn't as neat a package, but unlike Kahr's POS9, it actually works.

I will not disagree with any of the listed choices. People know what is best for them.

BUT, am I to understand that some folks carry a Glock or Kahr in their pocket, with a round chambered, without a holster?

Is this correct?

All of my pocket carry is in a Uncle Mikes pocket holster or a DeSantis Nemisis pocket holster.

GLOCK 26, S&W M38/642 and Kahr PM9.

pocket carry

Before I get to my carry, to answer the question in the first thread. There is NOTHING wrong with the 380 (.32 or .22) as a carry round. Get some good ammo, Glaser, Hydroshock, Gold Dot .... and you are in business. As LW Seecamp says in their paperwork, shot placement is most important. Rather be hit in the foot with a 44 than the chest with a .22.

My deep cover is a High Standard 101 derr. in .22 mag with the wallet holster. In thin shorts it looks like a wallet, with a trigger hole. Next level is a Seecamp 32. My tie is a Charter Arms Undercover, S&W 637 or Colt Det. Spec. I carry all these from time to time now depending on my clothing and mood.

I have never carried the Kel-Tec or the Kahr but both seem like great guns and the Kel-Tec for the money would be hard to beat.

I carry a Glock 27 as a duty weapon on my hip. I agree it is heavy for pocket or ankle carry. If this exsists, it is Too much firepower for a true back up.

Sorry for the soapbox, Thanks PB

J-frame .38spl/.357mag from Ruger/S&W/Taurus

I'd buy a new S&W model 638 .38spl or Sc .357/.38 with a lasergrip. The Taurus CIA models or Protector line would be good too. The Ruger SP-101 DA only .357mag would be a good choice but it weighs a lot more for a pocket carry sidearm.

A SA/DA bodyguard type .38spl would be best for several reasons;

You can carry it with ease in most pockets, it can be fired inside the pocket in a pinch, if you are wounded or must shoot one handed you can shoot single action. The covered hammer design reduces snags or ADs unlike a regular SA/DA revolver. ;)

I had a Taurus Ti Protector .357magnum with a Crimsontrace lasergrip. It worked well with a Desantis Nemnisis pocket holster and a few speed strips ;) .
