Finally got a proper case tumbler. A Lyman Pro 1200 followed me home the other day. :D

The media I'm using is crushed corn cob with a tad bit of car polish. Corn cob is what I've been using with my redneck tumble method to date: (Large plastic pickle jar, encased in homemade, padded, coat that was tossed in the clothes dryer on tumble only cycle.) It works OK, but now that I have this nice Lyman I'd like to hear from others about how they get best results with these vibrator bowl types. I hear you can wet tumble in these too. What kind of concoctions do you guys like with these to get best results?

BTW, picking cob media out of primer pockets is a pain.:fire:

I started out using 20/40 corncob with NuFinish polish added. I now use 50/50 walnut hulls/corncob with polish added. The 20/40 is fine enough it will flow through primers pockets. The mix will clean faster than straight corncob, and still give you a ploish. Corncob is mainly used for polishing the reason for adding walnut hulls. I use only blast media. It will have less dust and is a lot higher quality, cleans better.

You werent using the family laundry dryer like me before you got a real one were you? I had a most hideous invention rigged up that involved foam taped around a jug and thrown in the dryer before I got a real one. Jmorris would have thrown up if he'd seen it!:)

It didnt work if anyone couldnt figure that out by the details provided.

I use Zilla Lizard Litter crushed walnut and a dollop of Nu Finish. I tumble 200 45ACP cases for six hours. I have never tried corn cob but I do know it gives a nicer finish.

Something I recently learned is that there is a efficiency ratio of media to cases...60%:40%...and that tumblers work better when filled to capacity.

See here

I may give this a try for my older heavily tarnished cases...some saved for more than 25 years

The Lyman Treated (Green) Corncob didn't do a very good job. I've had better luck with plain corn cob and Nu-finish

Looks like Nu-finish will be added to the supplies, along with some walnut.

Potatohead...yep...family dryer.

Thanks for all the replies.

Car polish or anything similar isn't needed. Cases need to be clean, not shiney. Plain crushed corn cobs or walnut shells are all you need. You may want to acquire a large cardboard box to deaden the noise.
