Just got a unfired 870 wingmaster with the folding stock marked "police only" heavy barrel, 2 3/4" chamber, pistol grip, wood pump handle, barrel and receiver blued. This is my FIL's who passed about four years ago looks like if I want it I will have to buy it from my MIL what would be a fair price for both parties?

I'd guess between $250 and $300, depending on how used gun prices run in your area.

ETA - and buy a conventional wood stock for it, too... sell the folding stock and split the money with your MIL.

While Lee is an expert on this I disagree with him. If the gun is all original do not replace the stock. The gun as described was a factory build and carries a little of a premium. $500 is a good starting place now a days, especially as it is unfired.

Rshooter,

I'm no expert at all, and I do shooters, not collectors. If that really is a collector's item (and I have no idea if it is), then it should be sold to someone who will appreciate it for what it is and not to some hairy-knuckled barbarian like me who would, like, use it and stuff.

I hate Remington steel folding stocks, I thought they were really kewl back in about 1978 when I didn't know any better either. The one I had back then would chop a little divot out of my cheek every time I shot the gun with the stock extended. After a couple of times drawing blood that steel stock lost its kewl points real fast.

I may be no expert, but I am at least OLD... :D

I agree with LL I don't care for the steel folding stock and have not shot the gun I would like just a regular stock it also does not have the sights on it.

Pistol grip only shotguns are fantastic for 105 pound Hollywood cuties blowing up bad guys with blanks. I loved reading how they make up dummy lightweight plastic mock ups so they can do the one handed racking too. They dub in the sound later.

Lee, what happened to you with that folding stock is what happened to everyone I knew that tried them. Give me a simple, standard oiled wood stock any day (and I don't want any additions, not even a magazine extension.... if I need extra rounds I'll have them with me - not on or in the gun).
