Police chief killed with rifle lost in ATF gun-tracking program

By Richard A. Serrano

July 5, 2013, 12:45 p.m.

WASHINGTON—A high-powered rifle lost in the ATF’s Fast and Furious controversy was used to kill a Mexican police chief in the state of Jalisco earlier this year, according to internal Department of Justice records, suggesting that weapons from the failed gun-tracking operation have now made it into the hands of violent drug cartels deep inside Mexico.

A semi-automatic WASR rifle, the firearm that killed the chief, was traced back to the Lone Wolf Trading Company, a gun store in Glendale, Ariz. The notation on the Department of Justice trace records said the WASR was used in a “HOMICIDE – WILLFUL – KILL –PUB OFF –GUN” –ATF code for “Homicide, Willful Killing of a Public Official, Gun.”

Didn't ATF Phoenix get Lone Wolf's cooperation by assuring them the guns were intercepted before they could cross the border?

And Serrano (Richard A. Serrano, "Police chief killed with rifle lost in ATF gun-tracking program", LA Times, 5 Jul 2013.) hasn't learned from what Sharyl Attkinsson has been put through, that Gunwalking is a PC toxic subject and you continue to touch it at yopur own political risk?

I asked Obama about "Fast and Furious" and this gun. He said they're not related. The ATF thinks it's a Tea Party gun and the President's staff talked about some gun safety as related to flippy-up thingies. The Secretary of State talked about how we need universal background checks so guns like this don't get into Mexico. Feinstein told Mexican citizens to "Turn them all in!" and plans to run an ad campaign down there using California money. Vice President Biden is concerned they didn't use a shotgun.

Wasn't Holder going to get to the bottom of this by investigating himself?

He's still filling out the paperwork and half of his staff is reading all about environmental law. The other half is looking at ways to prosecute white Mexicans in Florida.

You would think that the charge of contempt of congress would hold some sort of power, but Eric H. still hasn't arrested himself .

Neither has anyone else, so I guess he is above the law, and not responsible for killings of Police, or US border patrol officers.

Fact is the whole deal is being swept under the rug and given some time nobody will remember fast and furious . Those that will - won't matter.

I'm pretty sure Obama is going to investigate why his people gave a bunch of guns to drug gangs in Mexico, he's mad about it and he's going to get to the bottom of why he authorized that. Someday. Maybe.

And don't forget, law abiding folks, you don't "need" that kind of a rifle. Special rules for special people....

Hell, the drive-by media pretty much flat out refused to cover it. Like so many other stories, if it weren't for FNC, I doubt anyone would have ever heard about it.

to tomrkba: Well said, the sarcasm is palpable!

I've said it before, but to paraphrase another comparison I caught recently; Obama himself could roast a child on a spit, on camera, and the MSM along with low information crowd would be marveling at his gifted cooking technique.

when police kill unarmed people they are above the law also. so you got the top LE in the country with a certain color face and you have double immunity to the law

It seems lately that Congress is powerless to do anything about this type of stuff and when department heads lie under oath or refuse to testify. As a result, even when they get caught, nothing seems to happen, which then does not discourage future bad behavior. No punishment appears in store for this event or any number of past instances of lying to congress.

"It seems lately that Congress is powerless to do anything about this type of stuff..."

And to spit in our faces, Lois Lerner, Susan Rice, and many more culpable individuals at DOJ, IRS, State Dept., etc. have been PROMOTED!!

This is how this admin. has figured out how to skirt the law before they're even caught.

US Rep. Issa and US senator Grassley did a good job investigating Operation Fast and Furious; as they should have. Then they dropped the whole thing after the 2012 election. They are now "negotiating" with the US Justice Dep't.

Dang...that's bad. Maybe the NSA should be tracking the ATF instead of tracking me.

Hey...NSA guy...:neener:

Actually Richard Serrano at LA Times and Sharyl Attkisson at CBS News have been overtime on this one. The left likes to dismiss FNC out of hand but it is harder to dismiss LA Times and CBS News as house organs of the GOP, NRA or red state tea baggers.

Did any of the people explain why the Obama administration refuses to produce the documents and the truth about how his administration supplied Mexican drug gangs that used to kill a US border control agent? Doesn't look like Obama intends to tell the truth about this.

jstein650: Maybe most people will forget Fast And Furious, but if the distraction is caused by ObamaCare looking like a real train wreck, then imagine the huge mess it's going to be. Postponed yet again, to salvage the 2016 'event'? Upstate NY is so scenic...

The antis probably believe that gun shops were Not pressured/coerced by the ATF into allowing questionable sales.

Makes me wonder if there weren't under-the-table pardons issued and known only to the principals involved, so nobody really wants to bother any more, except to keep up appearances.

Is that even a possibility? Or is my geriatric/Brooklyn paranoia showing again?

They are above the law and they are all working together. Nothing will ever be done and what is being done is just a show to appease people. The only way these people will be held accountable for their crimes is if a mass amount of people march into Washington and into the White House and demand accountability and action. That's the only way but most people do not have the balls to do it and its going to take more than a few. Unless, you could convince some high ranking military brass to do it. Otherwise, whining and talking to your Congressman and all of that is a lost cause. Some know that and those that do decide to spend time with their family and friends and move on. They become passive which is good but doesn't help the situation either. It makes it worse. They are expecting people to roll over. The truth is every one of them on the Hill should be in jail for running guns and a number of other crimes.
