Police Investigate Use Of Submachine Gun In Robbery

When you hear inaccurate crap like this, it really makes you wonder how many other stories they don't get straight...

I have been saying this for years! :fire: :banghead: What makes you think that any other "news" story you see/hear is any more accurate? Even if the media are accurately relaying what they were told, it is not necessarily correct. Once you have been close to a news event and then read/watch the reports on it, you will never take any media report at face value again.

I believe the "MP9" report because I doubt the ability of the (average) Cincinnati Police to recognize an unusual firearm by any means other than reading the barrel stamp.

sorry, OT

They were banned from production in 1989 and then produced as closed bolts as the KG99. They were banned because they were fairly easy to make full auto. SAme deal with all the other open bolt guns ie. mac 10's, etc... Most made closed bolt guns or went out of business.
I thought open-bolt semis were banned earlier, like, early 80s? 82 comes to mind. Would anyone care to point out what I am thinking of instead? Or am I just stupid at the moment and have the wrong year stuck in my head?

All these years and regulations and bans gets confusing, lol.

Of course, the kid should not have had a handgun by law anyway.

Why not? Nothing in the federal law that says an 18 yr old can't own a handgun, they just can't buy from an FFL. State laws may prevent it, I guess, though. Could someone in Ohio could comment on the minimum age for handguns?

Zach S,

I think you are right. It was either in 82' or 83' if I remember correctly. In 1989 was when the import ban was instituted.

Well, it's not illegal for an 18-20 year old to possess a handgun in Ohio, but it is illegal to supply one to them unless they are "under your supervision." Law is unclear whether that allows them to leave your presence with it. Obviously, this young man's "supervisor" is in a heap of trouble.

What I should have said was, "The kid should not have been out carrying in public". But then again, he shouldn't have been robbing the store. :D

so it was a semi auto encom..figures.

somebody really wants to get an ohio A.ban started and I can bet who.

Hmmm.

Doesn't quite look like a TEC-9 to me,
but it's not a great picture.

Id be surprised if it even worked.

im wondering if they used the OHIO rev code definition of a machinegun to call this atrocity a submachinegun.according to that,it just needs a 31+ round mag in it.
