Would-be Victim Kills Arlington Robbery Suspect
By Jared Halpern, Reporter@ June 30, 2008 5:57 AM Permalink | Comments (2) | TrackBacks (0)
A robbery suspect is dead after police say a would-be victim shoots and kills the man in front of several witnesses inside an Arlington apartment complex.
Police have been scouring the Summer Oak apartment complex on University Boulevard near the Arlington Expressway most of the morning and a private security firm is keeping media off the property.

Officers tell WOKV's Jared Halpern that two suspected robbers tried a stick-up on a group of people in an apartment parking lot shortly before midnight. One would-be-victim pulled a gun and shot a suspect to death.

Police identify the man only as a black male in his early 20s. The shooter is the man who called 911, sending police to the scene.

A second robbery suspect has not been found and police say no arrests in the shooting have been made.

Sgt. Dan Janson with the Sheriff's Office homicide unit tells WOKV it's still too early to tell if the shooting is justifiable, excusable or criminal. Several witnesses and the believed shooter are talking with police this morning.

Investigators also say multiple guns were found at the scene of the shooting, leading police to believe the robbery suspect was armed.

Looks like a couple of thugs chose the wrong folks to rob!!! Less one BG!:what:

i hope the police dont do anything stupid like charging this guy. it sounds like he acted appropriately given the situation, ESPECIALLY if the bad guys were armed.

one less scumbag out there. good deal.

At least from what we know right now, the score is:

Good Guys 1
The Sleaze 0

I'm reserving comment on this until there are more details. We don't know what the situation was. Could be a righteous shoot, but could also be gang or drug related. Even if they were both BG's at least the herd got thinned a little.

I'm with cougfan2, there's a whole lot to this we haven't seen yet. There could be all kinds of good or bad implications yet to be made. I'll agree, however, that whether it was an innocent victim defending himself or a criminal activity gone wrong the world is always better off with one more BG with lilies on his chest.

The shooter is the man who called 911, sending police to the scene.

Not something your typical BG would do in some sort of criminal activity gone wrong. In a scenario like that it is more likely everyone would have fled the scene leaving 1 dead and no witnesses.
