Report says ex-wife's plan caught on tape

A Henderson police sergeant was the target of a murder plot hatched last week by his ex-wife, according to Las Vegas police.

Las Vegas police charged Florela McCorkle Martinez with solicitation for murder after she paid a $1,000 down payment to an undercover detective posing as a hit man on June 15, according to a police report.

At a northwest Las Vegas restaurant, the police report states, she was recorded telling the undercover officer to kill her ex-husband, Sgt. Robert McCorkle, while on duty, and she added that she wanted his dead body mutilated.

The report states, "She requested (the officer) shoot her ex-husband between the eyes. She also requested (the officer) cut off her ex-husband's genitalia and place said genitalia in the mouth of Robert after he was dead."

McCorkle Martinez, a former massage therapist and cocktail waitress at a Strip resort, was in Las Vegas Justice Court on Wednesday. Justice of the Peace Ann Zimmerman assigned a public defender to represent McCorkle Martinez and scheduled a preliminary hearing for July 13.

Detectives who were involved in the arrest couldn't be reached for comment Wednesday. Robert McCorkle also couldn't be reached for comment at the Henderson Police Department.

Las Vegas police detectives started investigating the case after they were contacted by a Henderson police detective.

An undercover Las Vegas police officer met June 1 with McCorkle Martinez at Cafe Nicolle, on the 4700 block of West Sahara Avenue. She asked the officer to kill her husband, the police report states.

McCorkle Martinez agreed to pay the masquerading hit man $10,000, and she described how she wanted him killed, the report states. Numerous other officers were either undercover at the restaurant or recording the meeting on video and audio tape.

Along with a photograph of her ex-husband, she also provided in writing her ex-husband's identity, address and phone numbers, a description of his vehicle, the identity of his girlfriend and his work schedule, the report states.

The undercover officer agreed to kill McCorkle and scheduled a second meeting to verify her ex-husband's identity and collect a down payment.

The second meeting occurred the evening of June 15 at the Grape Street Cafe, on the 7500 block of West Lake Mead Boulevard. That meeting also was recorded by police personnel.

The undercover officer provided McCorkle Martinez with photographs of her ex-husband while at work and at home.

She described in detail how she wanted Robert McCorkle murdered and his body mutilated, and the two agreed on a fee of $10,000, the police report states.

Officers after the meeting pulled over the 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche that McCorkle Martinez was driving near the intersection of Alta and Buffalo drives. She was arrested and booked into the Clark County Detention Center, the report states.

The couple's divorce records were sealed.

The couple shared a 1,718-square-foot home for 15 months on Paseo Mountain Avenue in the Seven Hills community in Henderson. The home sold for $223,000 in November 2002, according to county records.
