WINTER HAVEN -- The teenager who tried to run over a sheriff's deputy during a high-speed chase over the weekend is still on the run.
Authorities say that 17-year-old Jaimie Davis escaped at least a dozen deputies, a helicopter and search dogs during and after the 20-minute chase early Sunday morning.

Davis will be charged with attempted murder on a law enforcement officer once he's caught. Police were already looking for him for violating his probation on previous charges of trespassing, burglary and cocaine possession when the pursuit happened.

His brother, Christopher Lee Davis, identified him as the driver of the truck. Christopher Davis was a passenger in the truck and was arrested once the chase came to an end in Bartow.

Sheriff's officials are also offering a cash reward through the county's Crime Stoppers program to anyone who has information that leads to Davis's arrest.

Davis is described as a 5-foot-10-inch-black male weighing 170 pounds.

"Obviously we hope he comes forward now that he knows we're looking for him," said Sheriff's spokeswoman Carrie Rodgers. "And if anybody knows where he is, they can come forward and remain anonymous by calling the Crime Stoppers hotline and receive the cash reward."

Sheriff's investigators say that Davis was "acting suspicious" after Deputy Douglas Chaney spotted him leaving a gas station at Spirit Lake Road and Recker Highway just before 3 a.m. Sunday.

Chaney tried to stop Davis, who was driving a red Chevy S-10 pickup truck, but he took off towards U.S. Highway 92.

Deputy Justin Kranitz put stopsticks down on the road to flatten the truck's tires at U.S. 92 and Combee Road, but authorities say that Davis instead aimed the Chevy at the officer to try to hit him.

Kranitz fired twice at the truck, hitting it once through the passenger-side window. The truck then headed down Combee Road at speeds between 90 mph and 100 mph, turning southbound onto U.S. Highway 98 into Bartow. Davis avoided four more road spikes during the chase, but deputies believe he hit a fifth set that flattened at least one of his tires.

Around 3:10 a.m., the truck began a slow roll at Manor Drive and Davis jumped out and ran. His brother stopped the truck, and Christopher Davis was booked into the county jail on a charge of indirect civil contempt.

Christopher Lee Davis identified his brother as the driver of the truck. The Chevy was not stolen, but Rodgers said the owner of the truck also has an unrelated warrant out for his arrest.

Anyone with information about the whereabouts of Davis can call Sheriff's Homicide Det. Mike Johnston at (800) 226-0344 or leave an anonymous tip at (800) 226-TIPS.

That has gotta be up in the top ten of funniest quotes in a news article, ever.

What's this mean?

booked into the county jail on a charge of indirect civil contempt

:what:

First time I ever heard of that though I do believe there was a law proclaimed similar to this recently in England. More like direct civil contempt though.

Was the guy breathing too loud?

"Indirect civil contempt" sounds preposterous. This is an arrestable offense

Hmmmmmmm..............

I live in Florida, and I have a 'passing' knowledge of the law, but I've never heard of that one.

Research (Google) shows the only actual usage of that phrase is when you are a party to a civil suit, and you've been ordered by the judge to produce certain documents, and you refuse to produce them, the judge can jail you indefinitely for "Indirect Civil Contempt"...
