I'm wondering about the value of my police service six. It's the stainless version that I purchased in 1976. It is stamped with "Made in the 200th year of American Liberty". Can anyone give me and idea of it's current value?

Don't sell it! It's Ruger's best revolver! I picked one up a couple of years ago for $300 and thought I got a good deal. They go for more recently. Keep the 6 and shoot the snot out of it if you can, it's built like a tank!

I've seen stupid prices for mint "Six" revolvers.

I bought my +95% Service Six for $235 (a real bargain) at an auction a couple years ago. Average is probably more like $275-$350. One with less than a good finish will be in the low $200's. Stainless might be in the $300-$400 range.

Collector grades and NIB are listed for some pretty outrageous prices ($700 to >$1,000) but I don't know if anybody ever gets that much... you could also research gunbroker.com for actual selling prices.

I have a security six, same gun with adjustable sights and I love it.
Those Rugers are some of the best working wheelguns out there.

I don't think the "Made in the 200th year of American Liberty" stamp makes much difference in the value. The revolver, however, stands on its own. It is a fine piece of work and in good condition should go for no less than $350.00. I have no intention of parting with mine.

Thanks for the info on the PS Six. I don't plan to get rid of it. Probably pass it on to my son.
On another note, I also acquired a primo condition 1888 S&W 5 shot 38 short. I'm sure it was a great deal when I bought it but don't know it's true value. Any ideas? I don't know if the finish is original but it looks very clean. I understand that the person who sold it to me found it in a desk In a building he bought. Would be interesting to know the history behind the gun.

I have one which has seen many rounds over the years. I bought it new i 1976 in Tucson.

I think there are quite a few out there with the "Made in the 200th year..." engraving. Still it is cool....
