Ruger Police Service Six??

In LGS Today and they have a Ruger Police Service Six 357 magnum in Stainless.

This one in particular had been stamped on left side above trigger:

" Made in the 200th Year of American Liberty "

Had not seen this before .. Nice Revolver though! $339.00 will be the price when it goes in case next week.

i bought a LNIB 4 inch security six for 350 and felt it was the deal of my life. so...... if you have the money buy it.

Grab it! That's a good price. I've been seeing them go for $450 to $650. The fact that its a bicentennial makes it even that much cooler.

I picked mine up at a gun show in Butte for $329 about 18 months ago.

In 1976 all Ruger guns produced were stamped with the Bicentenial marking. Although these guns are usually worth a 10% premium over non-Bicentenial guns.

For that price I would jump all over it, and I already have one!!!

The Security, Service and Speed sixes are finally getting their due on the market. Unless your new find has the barrel tied in a knot it would bring $400 on Gunbroker, and if it's in relatively nice shape $450 and like new with the box well north of $500. My Service Six is the .38 Special DAO Police version and my nightstand gun.

Nothing extra special about the centenial model unless you're into those added inscriptions. Same gun, same performance. That would be a high price some time back but in the ball park these days.

My dad carried a blued one during a stint as a deputy in Colorado in the early eighties. I don't know if he bought it new, as we were not in contact back then. Its serial number dates at from around that year, but not 1976 itself, as it has no bicentennial stamp.

It's a rock-solid, well-balanced shooter, and came with the then-optional rubber (Pachmayr?) grips.

It became mine when he died in 2010. I'd love a stainless one to keep it company.

Except for real estate and Beanie Babies, that pretty much true for everything.

I am always in the market for any of the Sixes and the prices I see are not just ban-panic prices, these Rugers have seen a steady climb over the last 5 years. Take a look at the auctions, that's a $500 or more gun all day long depending on condition. I bought a NIB 6" stainless Security Six, Ohio State Patrol commemerative in a wood case for $275 but that was 8 years ago before people widely realized the quality of these guns.

A sharp buyer may still find one in the $350 range at a local shop but a smart seller can get way more. this well worn blued example recently brought $420 and the LNIB Stainless 200th year short barrel one below it brought 39 bids and $875.

If you are not happy with it I will buy from you, however since they are super great revolvers you will fall in love with it and and someday your grand kids will still be using. That is how good they are.

Even if you find one that's getting a little tired looking like my Speed Six had, just do a little light polishing.

Buy it! I sold a 2 3/4" barrel stainless steel Service Six last year; that was a dumb move.

Most underrated revolver in ever made. Simple, reliable and a very good self defense revolver. Ruger sold quite a few to law enforcement in 38 special. I have owned a 4 inch 357 magnum version longer than any of my revolvers. At that price I would grab it.

And yes it is getting harder and harder to find a good Security/Speed Six, that is fore sure.

Ruger put that on every single firearm they made in 1976. Thousands of guns, no doubt.
But that has been a while and now you can usually get a premium for nearly any production variant, no matter how trivial.

I got a 2 3/4" Security Six as part of a trade, and boy was it one of the best trades I ever made. It is now my EDC and one of my favorite firearms.
