Back when I was LEO

The ONLY shields that could stop rifle fire = weighed about 60 to 80 POUNDS and were on wheels.

SO, guessing they did not have THE shields, and used what they had.

I too have heard numerous reports about 5 K rounds in the firefight.

I was only surprised that there was THAT much ammo on hand.

That is almost a years supply for any but LARGE citys in the USA [ NYC etc. ]

My department (under 3k officers) orders ammo in the millions every year.

The round count I heard was from both sides. A few terrorists dumping 30 round mags in full auto can run up those numbers pretty quickly.

Most research I've seen, from US police departments, suggests that cops have a hit rate of about 10% when they're shooting at someone. Someone who may not even be armed, and who is unlikely to be barricaded and carrying a rifle. I'd imagine the hit rate under those circumstances to be less than 1%, which would require more than 800 rounds to get the eight terrorists, so 3k shots fired sounds right on to me.

I've always thought accuracy by volume is the optimal strategy, that's why the poodle shooter (223) replaced the 308. Sure the 308 hits harder, but the guy with the 223 gets twice as many chances to shoot you.

The officers definitely displayed bravery of he highest order.
