Police sniper ends hostage stand-off

was unable to watch the video clip, but from the article sounds like a good shoot, I wouldn't be suprised if these two individuals are the same two that had robbed the bank before. all in all sounds like a good day of police work.

Heard about it on the news.

From all accounts, it's a good shoot. They took a hostage, police stopped them. Hostage seems to be O.K. (from what I heard on radio), one BG dead, another on the way to the klink. Happy ending.

Those jackasses closed down the west side of town for a day. Took hostages, shot at LE, all kinds erratic crap. The SO used great restraint (this being the second armed encounter in the same area in 2 days!) and tried to play it out non-violently with them. The guy forced their hand, and these good 'ol boys hit what they shoot at. Joe

Do the snipers use .223 or .308/.30-06?

I'm guessing the .30 cal... but not sure.

I doubt 30-06.....

I would bet .308 but I am not sure, I know that is what all of our local teams use for the most part for this type of operation.

I'm much more worried about the hostage than the police. Police have the training, body armor, and means to protect themselves--IT'S THEIR JOB. Anybody that threatens the life of an innocent (hostage) like that should be put in the cross hairs--no need for a judge and jury. If they never fired a single shot at the police, it was the right thing to do taking the scum out.

I do NOT believe that "suicide by cop" is right however. Far too much of that happens--when a mentally problematic individual is mainly a danger to himself.

this is good news. the perfect resolution to such a crime. now all we have to do is turn the police sniper loose on the fox news channel anchor that said that "the county sherrif pulled out his big guns, and brought in his tank." it was an M113.

to answer yellowlab,

The rifle was most likely a .308 The tactical teams around me and all the other ones Ive witnessed, talked to etc, have .308 rifles. Mainly remington 700's with the custom composite stock and all the goodies. Most look like the military's M40. Some places Ive seen with semi-auto rifles like an HK-91 and things like that. But not in NJ.
