WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Charles Moose, the police chief who led the probe into last year's sniper killings around the U.S. capital, has been called to active duty with the U.S. Air National Guard, a police spokeswoman said on Thursday.
The Montgomery County government said Moose received notice of his active duty status as a major in the District of Columbia Air National Guard on Tuesday as the United States mobilized for war against Iraq. Moose heads the police department in the county, parts of which were paralyzed by a string of random shootings.
Suspects John Lee Malvo, 17, and John Allen Muhammad, 42, were arrested and accused of killing 13 people and wounding six others in Washington, Maryland, Virginia, Alabama, Georgia and Louisiana. Moose won a book deal from publisher Dutton Books to tell the story of the investigation.
