Polish Hellpup SBR?

Hey guys. I'm planning on getting an AK pistol to do my first sbr conversion. I was set on getting a Draco pistol locally. There is a guy that has one like new for $750. I was ready to go ahead and buy that when I got an e-mail about the Polish Hellpup pistol from IO's importer Royal Tiger Imports.

Looks like it would be about $100 cheaper after shipping and transfer. It has a chrome lined barrel and is supposedly made in Radom, Poland. I haven't been able to come up with too much definitive info on these with a Google search. Has anyone handled one or seen one in person? Any additional info or advice is appreciated. Thanks.

Would suggest that if you want a more true-to-life Krinkov, that you pick one with the hinged top cover such at the Yugo PAP, etc. The quality of the Polish one is likely very good, but the top cover and rear sight in the picture looks like straight AKM "shortened" as opposed to a real Krink layout.

I guess arguing against me is the fact that you will probably use a side-folder stock (ACE) that is not at all Krink-Like, but still... the hinged top cover is... well... cool.

Have shot two SBR Yugo PAP's and they are mucho-fun...

The yugo paps were in the back of my mind too but the lack of a chrome lined barrel was a strike against them. I've also heard by some that they were inferior to the Draco but admittedly don't remember what the specific reasons were.

I was thinking of going with tech sights for it to give me a longer sight picture.

And, you are correct, I was eyeing up an ACE side folder for the conversion.

The two PAP's I have are excellent quality, and unless you shoot corrosive ammo and then fail to clean them, the lack of chrome means about zero. Cleaning them is a breeze... so on chrome. Not a biggie.

The USMachineguns stock adapter fits them perfectly without any drilling, and allows addition of any ARMS folding mechanism and stock. They make a very nice SBR. For this category of rifle, optics are really superflous in my humble opinion. They shoot minute of paint can at 100 yards, and that's all you need.

If you are old and can't focus on the front sight and need a red dot, superflous becomes essential!

I guess arguing against me is the fact that you will probably use a side-folder stock (ACE) that is not at all Krink-Like, but still... the hinged top cover is... well... cool.

Another knock is you can get an even cooler hinged top cover from Texas Weapons Systems or Parabellum Armament that has a rail to really help when adding the red dot or optic needed by us older folks.

I saw a few videos of different guys having trouble with the hellpup. Not getting enough gas to cycle the bolt. Both were sent back. I ended up getting the M92 PAP. Liked it so much I bought another.

Puts my head in an awkward position Using reading glasses can work OK, but I don't really trust them for protection, and sure do miss the "tint" of my shooting glasses eyepro when I do occasionally use them.

I had special glasses made actually... mid distance prescription. Works a treat. Google Hidalgos in Louisiana, and speak to Jim there personally. He knows how to build special glasses for shooters, pilots, and all sorts of other special uses (like electricians who work above their heads and want the reading segment on the TOP of the lens, etc). He's a master craftsman.
