Did anyone else see that J&G Sales has Polish P64 pistols in stock for $220? I've been looking for one for a few months and could only find them on Gunbroker for $250-400 plush shipping. I just ordered (2) from J&G. How does everyone like the P64? From what I've heard, it is awesome besides the DA trigger pull. Thanks.

I bought a P64 from Southern Ohio Gun (SOG) around 4 years ago just to snatch up another firearm with my C&R. It turns out I liked it far more than I was expecting.

The single action is phenomenal even if the double action is atrocious.

I carried mine for a bit and still would if I hadn't purchased a P238HD to serve that role. I have a lot of respect for the P64. Mine has proven absolutely reliable and very accurate (in SA, anyways).
Recoil is much harsher than my P238HD of comparable weight and power, being that it's a blowback.
However, that harsher recoil really only matters at the range, IMO.

I'm glad I made the purchase. I suspect you will enjoy yours too.

Wolff springs will bring the DA trigger pull down to something more manageable.

Sights are very small.

Magazines are hard to come buy most of them used. Weak springs are common.

No one makes replacement magazine springs but it is possible to alter Makarov springs to work.

I find the recoil a bit sharp.

It is too heavy for my pockets. Mine lives in my truck most of the time.

Love mine - I use the 92 gr (I think) Silver/Brown/some color bear load versus the 109 gr white box Russian Mak ammo and recoil is much more manageable. The single drawback to it as a concealed carry is weight - don't know how much it weighs, but it definitely pulls your pants down walking. A holster on the belt might help, but it is still an all-steel, extremely solid and well-made pistol. The Wolff trigger spring helped a lot on the DA pull; the SA is almost too light, but I really like it.

They are well made, compact, heavy and will sting your hand like no other (at least my hand) I have a couple without CAI's graffiti on the side.

Loved mine so much I actively sought one for the little lady. I will say though that I replaced the springs ASAP. The sights are very small but to be honest I find them adequate, I have a great love for my little p64 and I don't see myself ever getting rid of it

I love mine! Got it for $75 bucks un-issued when they first burst onto the scene:cool:. All steel, simple, dead nutz reliable, and incredible accurate. I take mine to 50 yards regulary. Only replaced the hammer spring, and recoil spring with wolf.

I'd like to echo the "incredibly accurate" part. First 6 shots I took with mine at a very short 20 feet, I put rounds 2-5 dead-on through the same hole. I could just barely see the paper move. If shots 1 and 6 weren't also right there, I would have done further testing to see if I wasn't missing the target, completely!

I had to get one years ago (last name ends with ...ski.)

I swear, the DA trigger feels like a craftsman stapler.

But, if that gun were currently made in the US or Germany, it would be a $500 gun.

Order the 18 pound hammer spring. It's a simple installation. Brings the DA to fair and manageable, and the SA to light and crisp.

I have had to repair two of the P64's for friends.
For some reason they thought that they could improve the trigger pull by sitting around watching TV dry firing the gun repeatedly.
Bad Idea.
Both had to have parts replaced as a result.
But the gun is sound, and a great pocket gun.
Just dont abuse them , and they will serve you well.

I wouldn't call the P-64 trigger break crisp, and that's nothing to do with the pull weight. It's just it feels more like slowly pulling the pin out of a grenade than the sudden break from say a 1911 that has proper positive sear/hammer geometry.

My 1974 P64 was purchased when they were fairly new on the surplus market, for $139. At the time, there was a lot of grumbling about the "Polish Makarov" from the Makarov fans...nobody wanted them.
Mine looked like new.
Yes, the DA pull was unusable. I did the mainspring switch, which worked great. I also noticed that the trigger bar pushes outward when the trigger is pulled. I gave it and the inside of the slide where the trigger bar slides a light polish, and I keep some CLP there.
I also put in a heavier recoil spring.
It shoots much better for me now.
The recoil is pretty sharp, but the heavier recoil spring helps that. I am not afraid of recoil...a Model 19 2.5" with the small wood magna grips and full power magnum loads is what I call fun. But the finger rest on the P64 smack my pinky hard.
Still, it is very accurate.
Look for the simple Polish issue shoulder holster. It is very lightly constructed and looks cheap. However, this winter, I found it carried the P64 very well. Under a fleece top, it was zero burden to carry, easy to access, and unnoticeable. Best part is they are cheap.
