I have owned a number of Polish Tantals, the Century Arms version, 5.45X39 sidefolder. All of them have been excellent rifles until the last one I bought.

I bought one that had the bad barrel. Had to have the barrel replaced. New trunion too.

Upon receiving the rifle back from the gunsmith as Century would not honor the repair, the problem I am having is the rifle will not eject the spent cartridge after firing.

I have checked the extractor and everything is fine. What is happening is the chambering of the round from the magazine/clip is flawless, the firing of the round is flawless, but it stovepipe jams. The spent cartridge is remaining in the bolt perfectly straight as if I could pop the bolt back and reinsert the spent cartridge into the chamber again. I can take my finger and tap the spent cartridge and it will come out of the bolt housing so something is not hitting the spent cartridge on the "blowback" cycle when the bolt is pushed back along the rails in the firing cycle. There is a metal lip per se, that extrudes off the left side of the rail inside the receiver that the spent cartridge is not hitting, and I can assume this is part of the extraction process, the spent cartridge passing over this metal protruding lip thus allowing for the extractor to eject the cartridge free from the rifle allowing for the bolt to push a new round in from the magazine/clip.

Loads smooth, rail action smooth, full insertion of round into chamber of barrel from magazine/clip.

When fired, the spent round will not eject, and thus is having a stove pipe jam. It shoots one round at a time. Given I have an above average knowledge of AK and its variants, Therefore, I disassembled the rifle and inspected the bolt. The bolt and the extractor work fine, there are no problems with either. Something is causing the spent cartridge to remain in the bolt housing in the "straight" position, meaning the spent cartridge is being held by the cartridge rim groove perfectly in the bolt housing and the extractor mechanism. Something isnt pushing the spent cartridge up and out of the bolt after it is fired. I inserted a 30 round magazine of rounds and normally the AK or any semi auto would insert round and then extract cartridge, and insert another round. Mine is not doing this, it is inserting one round, extracting the cartridge on the blowback but not ejecting the cartridge out of the rifle. The cartridge stays in the bolt. I can take my finger and tap the spent cartridge and it will easily remove itself from the bolt housing. No hanging up of the cartridge or forcibly having to pull the spent cartridge out.

Is there a way to correct this problem as I have past the point of no return in trying to salvage a lemon into a working rifle? Once this is remedied, I will have a decent working Tantal. I still stand by the rifle as a personal favorite, very good priced, ammo inexpensive and a "poor man's" alternative to an AR-15 in terms of price and FPS .

Thanks to anyone who can help this old boy out.
