Hey. I was looking at a Polish Tantal in 5.45 x 39.

My question is this: Does the folding stock cause any recoil problem?

I read somewhere that the folding stock "looks cool" but doesn't absorb the recoil as well. However, I would imagine 5.45 has lighter recoil than say, 7.62 x 39.

Does anyone here have a Polish Tantal or 5.45 x 39 rifle with a folding stock?

I have a SAR-3, in .223, and that's probably as close to 5.45X39 as you can get without being identical. I have the same, identical folder.

No recoil problem whatsoever. In fact, the folder gives a pretty decent cheek weld with the stock sights. The metal folder is a little cold, though.

I bought a piece of black PVC tubing with an inner diameter that matched the diameter of the folder, slit it, cut to fit, put it on, and taped it with black tape. Looks right, and is a little more comfortable on the cheek.

Somewhere at AK-47.net there are instructions on how to wrap a folder with paracord. That would probably be a nice enhancement, too.

That folder is a great one, IMHO. When folded, it allows access to all controls. Most folders obstruct the safety or trigger when folded.
