i have a polish tantal i bought maybe 6-7 months ago. I have put maybe 10 rounds through it so far just in my back yard. Been having trouble finding a public range where i can shoot it. My girlfriend was shooting it recently in my yard again , put maybe 3 rounds through it just shooting into a hill no target set up. I have yet to shoot at a target actually. Its a century build and i have read a lot about key holing not sure if mine is key holing or not. Anyways i never cleaned it when i first brought it home it was actually the first gun i ever bought. So i went to clean it last night and had bought a bore snake to help me out. I went to drop the bore snake through the barrel and noticed it wasn't going through. I shined a flash light down the barrel and noticed a casing still stuck in the barrel. actually its stuck so i cant even chamber another round. I was wondering if anyone has any ideas on how i can get it out of the barrel. Or should i just take it somewhere and have someone get it out for me? thanks in advance for any help! also what causes things lke this to happen? ammo malfunction or is it the rifle?

Always field strip, clean and lube a new firearm before you shoot it for the first time.
You need to purchase a cleaning rod if you don't already have one. They usually will enable you to push a stuck case out.

I'll say it: why did you look down the barrel first?

You should have pulled the bolt back and checked.

Does the bolt close completely? If not, just pull it back, let go of it to slam it shut, and yank back again, and it should extract. You may worry about doing that at first, but it's a lot easier on it than the AK's normal operation. They really don't like to be babied, and in fact will rarely even go into battery if the bolt's let forward gently.

If it does close completely, that means part or all of the rim broke off. If it's part, just push a cleaning rod (most AK's come with them) down the barrel and tap it out. 7.62x39's taper makes it extremely easy to tap out.

If the whole rim broke off, you'll either need a close-fit rod or dowel--the cleaning rod with brush on often works--or a broken shell extractor.

As to why it happens, it's almost always an ammo thing. A flaw in the brass--usually stress from previous shootings on reloaded brass, or corrosion or cracks on old or cheaply mass-produced stuff.

I believe all Tantals are 5.45x39. Which means that I'd think a dowel gets a little sketcy as a 0.20" dowel is a pretty small thing to be pounding on. I'd use the cleaning rod or something similar.

Also, I don't think there even is any brass cased 5.45 ammo available.

Good luck!

ok so i used the cleaning rod to get it out. It was actually the bullet itself stuck in the barrel. I gave the rifle a good cleaning and put a few rounds in the stock magazine. I loaded a round and it seemed to feed fine. I figured i would then pull back the bolt eject that round and see if another would feed. It seemed very difficult to pull the bolt back. I eventually did but only the bullet casing came out and again the bullet itself was stuck it the barrel. Any idea why this would be occurring? i am using wolf JHP 5.45 x 39 ammunition. Does this sound like an ammo problem or a problem with the gun?

Sounds like you have a rough patch in the bore just ahead of the chamber, you basicly have two choices here. One... you can you call Century Arms and let them know what the issue is and box it up and send it to the factory(Century has good customer service) and they will repair it free of charge.

Or... get a hundred rounds of ammo, I have had good luck with Monarch (availible at Acadamy) and maybe you can "shoot it out", then try hand cycling some rounds and see if the problem solves it's self. If you still have problems you can dissasemble it, get a stainless steel brush and lightly polish the first inch of the rifling (NOT THE CHAMBER). Either way you should not have any issues with keyholing because it sounds like your bore dimentions are very tight
