I have a very nice Polish Tokarev in 7.62x25. I'm thinking about converting it to 9mm. There are conversion barrels out there for around $35. I have seen magazines with spacers in them but many owners have said that the 7.62x25 mags work fine as is. I like this pistol for concealed carry because it's so slim but I'm afraid the 7.62x25 rounds may over-penetrate (more than the 9mm). The ammo isn't all that expensive but mostly limited to FMJ. I'm also worried that the POI might change with the conversion. Anybody have experience with this conversion?

I have a 9mm barrel for my TU-90 Norinco Tokarev. I used the stock 7.62x25mm mags. Reliability was only so-so when I tried it.

I really like shooting the Tok; I like the trigger and the slimness of the pistol. With 7.62, I've never had a jam. Wolf Gold now makes an HP in 7.62, with a price comparable to 1st gen 9mm hollow points. It's been accurate and reliable in my gun, so that's the way I go.

Thanks

Thanks for the info. I will try some of the wolf ammo. If it works, I will probably forget about the 9mm conversion. I like the 7.62 round. Does anyone have any ballistics comparisons for the 7.62x25? How does it stack up against 9mm, or a .357 sig? I know the velocity is around 1450ft/sec but what about energy at the muzzle?
