I am about to refinish my Turk sporter, and would like to have a polished bolt. A lot of the bluing has rubbed off from use, so I figured It would be best to polish it and keep it in the white. I think I read something about throwing it in a brass tumbler with walnut shells. Will that work, or is there a better way? Maybe a dremel with a polishing wheel?
Thanks,
Brad

You need a polishing wheel set-up. Depending on pitting, you may need to start with a belt grinder, then go to the wheels.

The tumbler will give it a uniform finish but won't polish it. You can do it by hand with fine grit (400-600)sand paper/emery cloth but a high polish can only be had with high speed polishing wheels and polishing/buffing compound(NOT automotive).

You got it right. let the gunsmith do it. He's the pro. If we get in trouble with the law, the smart money is on a lawyer, when you're sick, you go to a doctor. Let the gunsmith do it properly and (as long as he's a decent smith) you'll never be disappointed.

if it is just a home remedy polish then nothing wrong with the polishing set up or Emery cloth or crocus cloth....you're not taking metal off you are "polishing" perse'. But then again if you are not adept then by all means "find" a good gunsmith and he in short time or order will have it looking like new. Your pride is a good one when you can do it yourself.....it is a relatively simple job.
