1.) Do you think the president should be allowed to declare war against any nation without congressional approval?
Absolutely not.
2.) Do you support the patriot act?
Absolutely not.
3.) What do you think of homeland security?
Question: Mr. Gandhi, what do you think of Western civilization?
Gandhi: I think it would be a good idea.

But seriously, I'm not opposed to the idea of improving security, so long as the means are compatible with the principles of liberty and individual rights, and the means are effective. What we have now A) violates those principles, and B) is little more than security theatre.

4.) Do you think the government should regulate the internet?
The Internet should be treated no differently than any other means of communication, and all should be regulated as sparsely as possible to achieve only those purposes spelt out in the Constitution, with no infringements upon unalienable rights.
5.) Do you support higher taxes or lower taxes?
Dramatically lower.
6.) Are there any current tax laws you'd like to see repealed?
Damn near all of them.
7.) If you were president, how would you handle the current situation (war) in Iraq?
Without going there in the first place.
8.) Do you think Iran is becoming a direct threat to our national security?
If so, it's because we're poking the bear.
9.) Do you think we should abide by the United States Constitution? Should any parts of it be amended by the government?
Yes. The Bill of Rights should be shortened. Slashed, really. I could do with just a small bit from the First Amendment, and nothing else: "Congress shall make no law."
10.) Should we grant amnesty to the thousands of illegal immigrants that have crossed our borders?
The entire immigration policy should be radically rewritten.
11.) Do you vote strictly for party affiliation (Democrats or republicans), or do you vote for the candidate that you feel will best serve our needs as freedom loving Americans?
I try to use my brain before I use my ballot. A monkey could be trained to vote straight-party.
12.) What do you think of the World Bank? Do you think all currency should be the same worldwide?
Yes, all currency should be the same: commodity money. The particular commodity isn't necessarily important, and can vary from place to place, or even coexist with others, but with a proper commodity-backed currency, money will be fungible, and freely convertible.
13.) What's your opinion of the United States being a member of the United Nations?
Somebody did a study not too long ago in which arbitrary "wealth" was distributed unevenly. Participants were then given the option to trade some of their money to destroy the wealth of others. This option was universally popular.

The United Nations is that game, writ large: small countries banding together, realizing that they're of lesser import economically and politically than, say, the US, so they work to drag the US down to their level.
14.) Should the government control the people, or should they serve the people?
You actually have to ask this? Are you high?

I am on the way out the door, so really quick,

1. I am happy with the current law on war declaration and the War Powers Act. The President should be allowed to act quickly and decisively, but not eternally.

2. I'm not thrilled with it, but I would hate it more if it had a provision to track firearms. Remember, those who criticize the Patriot Act are usually the same people who would criticize if the President had done nothing at all. I would like to see it go away as the GWOT fades into irrelevance through a series of court decisions.

3. I think that creating the DHS has created another unnecessary layer of government without solving any real problems or providing any new capabilities.

4. Pretty much no. Certainly not to tax internet commerce.

5. Always lower as the economy becomes more self-sustaining. This is economics 101. When you have an economic slowdown, you cut taxes and interest rates. (Ben Stein.)

6. I won't pretend to understand economics well enough to get specific about taxes.

7. WE should not be guessing what the enemy will do next. THEY should be guessing what WE will do next. If we were serious about ending the conflict, we would close the borders and choke out the enemy. Instead we are defining insanity...anyone.....anyone, repeating the same methods expecting different results.

8. More to world security in general than our national security. The problem WAS that Hussein was in a position to bully the whole region. The problem now IS that we are not acting deciseively to prevent the Shia from doing the same thing.

9. As strictly as can be interpreted. I want a LOT more power returned to individual states. If I were in Congress, the first thing I would ask about every single piece of legislation would be, "Is there not a way we can help the states to do this on their own?"

10. Sure. Just as soon as we process all the people who faithfully followed the rules and did what they were told, hoping at a legitimate shot at residency and citizenship one day. Everyone else leaves the country and goes to the back of the line. PERIOD. Enforced by any and all effective means.

11. I will not affiliate, I believe parties take care of the party's interests, not mine. I wish more republicans were libertarians in their actions. It's been a LONG time since I voted for a Democrat.

12. I don't trust any other nation to maintain control over our fiscal policies. (I don't really trust ours either, but I don't hate it enough to start a money war to return the gold standard.)

13. The U.N. is mostly good for accepting bribes, waiting until world crises get out of control, and showing up later to count bodies. I grew up very near La Verkin UT, where they made headlines a few years ago for passing a city ordinance banning the U.N. from doing any kind of business within the city limits. (It was quickly quashed by the AG.)

14. As long as my government trusts me to be armed, I will trust them to be my government. Armed men are citizens. Unarmed men are subjects.
