Politicians Are Calling For A Ban On Silencers. Here’s What You Need To Know

Would I buy a suppressor now? Nope....not after throwing away $600 worth of bump stocks. In fact, I have basically stopped buying anything gun related this year. Just imagine if the assailant's suppressor had been attached to an AR. The writing is on the wall which Trump and the NRA have made perfectly clear.

Lots of quitters posting in this thread, or closet antis. We fight like we always do.

I don't see this going anywhere unless we put in a bunch of antis next go around. So, like Sheriff Buford T. Justice said, you can think about it, but don't do it. Just vote pro gun, it's very simple.

-If you can't find someone that is clearly pro-gun and pro-rights to vote for, find someone that is clearly anti-gun and anti-rights to vote against.
This is never a stand-alone issue. Not a clear choice if other issues are important to you. Even people that say that they are single-issue gun voters are probably not telling the truth.

Yep.
But people that come out against one constitutionally guaranteed right usually have no problem coming out against other, similarly guaranteed rights.

Suppressors don't interest me. Neither did bump stocks. ERPO's are a violation of 4A pure and simple.

I'm still here in a sea of socialists voting against regulations on all of these things. Little good does it do. We now have ERPO's, a UBC, and a bump stock ban, all enacted by our state legislature. Suppressors and SBR's will be history soon. We have only had those a few years so it will be low hanging fruit for the anti-gun folks. I bought a semi-auto rifle a few months ago to beat the I-1639 restrictions. I voted against that also. I expect I'll have to register my two rifles in the near future and dispose of the >10 rd mags.

I don't see any reason to buy any more items that I'll either have to dispose of or register. I won't be able to sell my rifles in this state. I've seen this coming for awhile and have curtailed my buying to reflect the coming restrictions. There just isn't any point in losing money to fly in the face of change. I don't have money to burn. It's a nice sentiment but not a wise financial decision. Wish it were different, but it's just the way it is.

Virginia is headed in the same direction as Washington. Fortunately, the panhandle of West Virginia is a short distance away from me, and getaway properties there are still fairly cheap. Even though the panhandle of WV is full of commuters to the DC area, the state as a whole isn't going to enact gun legislation anytime soon.

I'm familiar with the Bluefield area. That would be a nice place to live.

Logic would suggest moving.

Considering what is happening in Ill-ANNOY, I am looking into the possibilities of both Arizona and Wyoming. Neither state taxes Social Security, both are OC states (WY is residents only though), state & local (avg.) sales taxes are (as of 7/1/18) 8.38% (#11) in AZ and 5.39% (#44) in WY. Ill-ANNOY is 8.73% (#7) with only OK, AL, WA, AR, LA, & TN being higher.

Not in the cards. Family is all here. I'll deal with it for another 10 years, after that all I need is carry permit. I don't see that going away.

But believe me I've thought about it more than once. The problem is how does anyone know how a state is going to turn. All one has to do is look at NV.

I used to live in Portland. My son lives in Seattle. We left for Texas. My daughter now lives in Portland and I have a new grandson in Seattle. Still haven't been up there to see the little grub as I really hate to be there.

There comes a point where you're just enabling the Left.

Even if their logic of blaming the tool and not the person is sound, why silencers?

They are virtually never used in crimes or shootings

Target of opportunity. The anti's creeping ban approach calls for taking small bites as opportunities present themselves. Suppressors are scary, according to Hollywood, most folks don't know anything about them, and they're currently in the news, good opportunity to take another bite. It doesn't matter what it is, everything firearms related is on the list for eventual attack when the time is right.

It's funny how something that is encouraged in nations with "strict' gun laws, is presented as some sort of assassins weapon over here, purely due to it's portrayal in media. And because of this I'll need to blow out my eardrums if I ever have to defend my home from an intruder. It's a shame more people don't own silencers, there would be much greater outcry from the American gun "community".

City worker....proly was a Democrat. Not playing politics.....just saying it doesnt fit the media plan......so theyre blaming a metal tube for the evil.

As if he would have found a cure for cancer if he hadnt had that suppressor
Firearms are inherently political, there are people who want to trample on our rights, and those who don't.

I think suppressors are the victim of their own popularity, which attracted the attention of the antigunners.

The question is, why have suppressors (and SBR's) become so popular? My theory is that the gun world has become increasingly aware of the NFA, and that gradually the ownership of NFA items has come to be seen as conferring a sort of "elite" status within the gun world. Since the ownership of machine guns has largely been placed out of reach by the Hughes Amendment and the resulting price spike, people have turned to the still-affordable suppressors and SBR's. (I question their inherent value apart from bragging rights.)

This is why the antigunners are going after suppressors. (Given the right circumstances, they'll go after SBR's as well.) It's not the hardware that they hate, but the owners. Gun owners as a cultural group are the target, not so much the guns themselves.

BOTH guns an owners are targets. BOTH.

I had one once, attached to my MAC-11 SMG. I was not at all impressed. (Either with the gun or with the suppressor.) I was more than happy to sell them.

Might be time to try some modern cans on more practical and useful guns, I've gotten to where I like them on everything I shoot. .22s are very quiet and they take much of the blast out full power rifles. Good for my ears, good for my friends ears, good for the noise pollution level, just all around very practical and useful accessories.
