Feinstein calling on the prez to ban imports of semi autos under sporting clause

Feinstein is circulating a letter in Washington demanding that the President use executive order to ban semi automatic firearms under the sporting clause of the 1968 GCA. I don't see how he legally could given what I know about the law and 922r. She even outlined the process importers use to get sporting rifles into the country and convert them after replacing the parts with US made parts so they can be converted to a "military" configuration.

I certainly wouldn't worry about this before the election. Any controversy on anything is going to hurt red state dems. 2015 might be another story. I do kind of feel like if it was a legally justified use of an EO it would have been used by now, I have to feel like someone in the admin knew about this policy last year and decided it would take an act of congress to change, but maybe I'm wrong and they did overlook it.
