I know the subject has been beaten to death and there is a wealth of info available by searching. I have done this. What I wasn't able to find (with a large amount of responses), was this question shown in a Poll format. A few years back when I started loading these calibers, my research lead me to W231 which was plentiful at the time. Just looking to see what most folks are using otherwise so that I can expand if the opportunity presents itself with powder.

And to clarify, I'm aware that W231 and HP38 are one in the same. Just thought it'd be interesting to see which one gets more use.

Thanks!

Of those on the list.

Light target loads: N310/WST/Competition

Medium loads: N320/W231/Zip/Green Dot

Full loads: Accurate(AA) #5/WSF/Unique

Wish you had listed N340.

Other..

Universal.

I use it for all my plinking rounds (9mm,38/357,40,44 mag,45acp)

shoots clean.

Both HP38 and Win 231 since they are the same powder as mentioned above. Another reason is they meter well too.

Yeah, I was wondering why you listed W231 and HP-38 separately too? I voted W231/HP-38.

Also, why did you list Accurate #5 and AA#5 separately? That is the same powder.

Like I mentioned in my initial post, I am aware that they are one in the same, however being that they are packaged and sold as different products, I was just curious which one was more popular.

I missed that when putting the list together. My bad. Sorry. :banghead:

I appreciate all the feedback so far. Keep it coming. :)

Another Win231 user here. It meters excellently and it works very well for me. In this drought I've been using WST for 9mm target loads in 124/125 gr. And I'll load up some 45s with it some time soon.
Walkalong -- if you don't mind sharing, what is your 9mm load with WST?

Fellas,
OP said he was aware that HP38 and W231 were the same.

If Im not wrong, he thought it'b interesting to see which showed up more. Around here it's hp38.

Dont load 45 (yet) so cant comment on that.

Oh I see now he mentioned in post 13 about Hp38 and 231 being the same. I guess I should read the whole thread before I chime in!

I voted for W231 but I buy whichever is cheaper between W231/HP-38.

However, during the shortage I have actually used more Promo for 9mm & 45ACP lead plinking loads so I can save W231/HP-38.

HP38 because it is $1 per pound cheaper than 231, because I don't load hot loads, because it meters like water, because my 38 Super and 45 ACP loads both use the same 5.4gn, because a double charge will not allow you to seat a bullet, and because it goes a long way.
I have been looking at CFE Pistol data. I don't know the relative price of it and HP38, but according to the Hodgdon date I would get 2000+ less rounds from an 8# jug of CFE than I do from HP38.
I am not biased at all, but it IS the only powder I buy.:D

I like and use HP-38.

Titegroup works well, but not for lead. Too much smoke.

Unique meters poorly with my Lee Auto Disk.

I have used Titegroup, Bullseye, and Red Dot in 9x19, 45 ACP, and 38 Special. Only used to load lead target loads.

Bullseye is my choice. I figure that I can't go wrong with a powder that has been in use for over 100 years.
