It is a 308/7.62x51 Rock River Lar-8 and uses fal mags. The mag in the picture is a 30 round fal/L1A1 mag. It has all the accessories that I put on my AR15 (flashlight, aimpoint, buis, and VFG) with the addition of a 3x magnifier and bipod in the VFG.

In this pic you can see the size difference between the 308 and an AR15 in 5.56.

Assuming I had plenty of mags for it, I'd go with the SCAR-H as it seems to combine the most firepower in the most compact and lightweight package. Barring that, the M14 would be a close runner up. I am familiar with that platform, and I trust it. After that, make mine an AK.

M16A1 or AR clone of. Full auto not necessary, just a waste of ammo that is probably hard to come by.

If it truly is an apocalyptic disaster, I'm probably going to be doing a lot of walking and scavenging (see The Postman, A Boy and his Dog, etc). I want something light and light ammo, but good sights, flat ballistics, and decent range to keep the potential bandit's heads down while I scoot in the other direction. I definitely don't want to be humping my FAL if I can avoid it.
