My wife never showed any interest in hunting. Then all of a sudden one season she said she would like to try her hand at deer hunting. We went to the pawn shop and picked up a used Winchester 30-30.
On her very first day of her very first deer hunt she killed her very first deer within the very first two hours. That was her very first and last deer hunt. She never went back. Just wanted to do it one time she said. Oh, I got my very first Winchester out of it.

My wife loves shooting my 30-30. My BIL was giving her a hard time once. He put a plum on the limb of a fallen tree that was a backstop for us. She shot it off the limb at forty yards offhand. All my BIL could say was "you hit it!" A little incredulously .

It's not on your list...

I generally hunt with a 8x57jrs, then after bagging two or three deer, I switch to my .240 Wby...

Light, handy, reliable, accurate, almost boring. JM 1894 in 44Mag. I should change it up this year. But I probably won’t.

Put it in my hands. Put me in the woods. Deer die.

Close to home where the shots are 70-90 yards on average, it's a Marlin lever in 30-30. If I go someplace where the terrain opens up to around 100 to 120 yards, I'll bring my Ruger American in 6.5 Grendel with 130 grain cartridges. Anything requiring a longer shot than that calls for my Ruger No. 1 in 270. But to limit oneself to one cartridge? Why not play 18 rounds of golf with holes of varying distance with one club?

My timber rig is a .35 rem pump.
But I have .3006, .308, .280 .243 and
.44 mag too.

Shotguns, handguns and MZ pretty mu h gave up. Used w great success, when I had better ground. Cant really mess around nowadays.

In years past I have used rifled12ga slug shotgun, .300 AAC Blackout AR pistol & I will be using the 350 Legend in an AR rifle this season. If I could find some private land I would be using the 6.5 Creedmoor, 7.62x54r or the 7.62x39 because the hunting regs only allow those on private land.
