There is a thread on the auto-loader board about poly vs. metal handgun frames.

That got me thinking. I don't recall ever seeing any poly-framed wheel guns. Wouldn't it be the same as for an auto-loader. That is, only the parts under extreme pressures or heat would need to be metal? The rest could be poly on a revolver too? Like the frame.

I know a lot of people don't like plastic, but as far as what works. I have a Nylon 66 Remington .22 Auto that works like it did when brand new, and the stock is still in very good shape. I also have several polymer framed Auto pistols that work. It probably would be a lot more difficult to make a Revolver, with the Cylinder and frame around it.

There's the problem -- note that in polymer automatics, the barrel and chamber are steel. And the lockup system (barrel and slide) are also steel. Those parts correspond to the barrel, cylinder and frame of the revolver. What's left to make out of polymer?

I think you could make the frame out of polymer, if it was properly reinforced. But really, it wouldn't be any lighter than an alloy frame, certainly not as light as a Ti/Scan frame, and probably less durable. There's the real rub right there; there'd be no advantage in it, I don't think.
