Y'all,

Here's some thoughts for open carry of a defensive weapon. You should be able to carry these just about anywhere here in the USA as well as most other countries. These should be innocent enough to carry on to airplanes (and since this is free advice, take it as such.) Doing anything stupid with these and getting into criminal/civil troubles is your own fault.

Many practitioners of Escrima and related FMA already are aware of 1" polycarbonate tubes as a cheap/effective and rugged fighting/defensive stick. Polycarbonate is a high impact plastic material capable of defeating bullets in the right thicknesses. They WILL definitely do serious harm when combined with the right training. You can go to TAP Plastics and buy an 8' length for $19.25 -they will even gladly cut it into any sized lengths you want for free. (I suggest this rather than purchasing the exact same product from specialty martial arts suppliers who charge as much as $15-20 for a 24" section.)

Once sectioned, you can carry them in a bag, in your car, whatever and no one will be the wiser (hey-it's just some plastic tubing!) You can even disguise them by wrapping a receipt around a few (see attachment) so it looks like you are on your way somewhere with work/hobby products. In dire need, pull package apart and defend away. I have even bought some plugs for the ends so you can put things like gumballs in them to really make them look innocent.

Next to these is a 12" length of Mad Dog's 'green stick' which is a glass/composite material and virtually indestructable so far with anything I've tried. Notice how I've put a bunch of Southpark and Hello Kitty stickers on them -yes, it looks stupid, but I can break collarbones with it.

I'm a big fan of sticks. I have some hickory, ramin, and canvas micarta (my favorite).

These are hollow? Hm. That opens up some possibilities.
