I wish I owned one as nice as this... Teddy Jacobson did this one Pro Bono for his machinist! They have worked together for years and I was lucky enough to get to handle it before it was complete. It took him 8 months to finish it between other jobs. When I asked what it would retail for, he said around $4K...

The basics -

Caspian Damascus slide
Caspian aluminum frame - class III anodized
Stainless Briley ramped barrel installed by Claudio Salassa of Briley Manufacturing, spherical bushing.
Grip bushings inlaid in wood grips were hand made of brass.
There are no MIM parts in this Commander.... but there is a good bit of evil mojo (stainless steel)
Serial number consists of Teddy's and the owners initials.
All jeweled of course!

Those Damascus steel slides that Caspian is making are just gorgeous.

Wish I could afford to have a piece made around one.

I never think about that, I guess everyone has thier own little things... I prefer hex heads... but since it is a brass bushing, I'm very willing to bet it could easily be done.

Tye-Dyed Commander

First tie dyed commander I've seen. Jerry Garcia would be proud.

ROFL!

I'm still at a loss over the swirly stuff on the grip safety and the
mag catch...I'd guess that the sides of the hammer are likewise
swirlied. What is it FOR? Enquirin' minds wanna know...:scrutiny:

Now the Heinie is nicely and tastefully done. I'm still not too
squared-away on that front-strap checker thing, but the fluted barrel
is...I assume...for rapid cooling, so that qualifies as a functional
mod...but the swirly stuff is a mystery.

Teddy is World Renowned for his intricate work on the interior and exterior parts of the guns he tunes/ and or / builds. He believes that this attention to detail is worthwhile and that the "Jeweling" of these parts retains lube better and looks Bitchin'and I have never seen any reason to disagree. I like to "Jewel" the barrel hoods of some of the 1911's that I build just because I can. This treatment is very old and has been used on the dashboards of cars, inside of cigarette cases, the inside of fine watches, and rifle bolts, to name a few. I do the barrel hoods because it's a custom touch that looks neat! I am sure that Tuner knows all about it if he hung around machine shops because it is done best on a mill. This Commander is not to my taste because I think the Damascus slides look better with the Evil Mojo Stainless Steel lower ends, but that is just my opinion and has no bearing on this beautiful job of work. I had the "Best Commander Ever" on my hip when I was out and about today. That is also just one poor old man's opinion. If I didn't believe that MY GUNS were the best there is, I would give them to Tuner free of charge.

Yes yes...I understand that it holds oil. I just don't understand the need to hold oil on the sides of the grip safety and hammer...and on the end of the mag catch. I must be missin' somethin'... :scrutiny:

Hung around a machine shop? Hung around...a machine shop???
Yeah, I hung around...about 10-14 hours a day sometimes for
15 years, I hung around. Can't have an MRI done because of it.
Got more steel in my body than a Michelin radial tire...:uhoh: :D

Oh man... am I having a flashback after all these years.... Ah hemmm. Hmmm. At first I thought the damascus thing looked sort of cool, but in a very short amount of time, I've come to think of it as trying way too hard to be different. Definitely not to my taste. I guess I like my 1911's to look a little closer to understated cool than over the top psychedelic. The looks thing is totally subjective, though... to each his own preference... nothing right nor wrong about it at all.

Hey... if you ran out of bullets, you could try to hypnotize the bad guy with the slide! :D Or the grip safety.... or the trigger... ;)

I think that perhaps The Tuner and I like the simpler things in life and like more utilitarian finishes. I have no problem with that Commander and the way it is finished. I have always admired the way Teddy does his work and always will. It is his thing and he has many satisfied clients that love his work. Many of them have availed themselves of his services for many years and he has a very great, loyal, following. I build guns to suit me and I have a more overall view of inner and outer workings of the 1911 semi-automatic pistol that others. I want them to look good, feel good, and shoot good. I have used Electroless Nickle and Blued Steel as finishes and do not care for stainless steel or hard chrome for personal reasons. Each of us has different tastes and I am all for that. That is what makes life interesting for me and if we all liked the same thing we would have no reason for forum conversations. This is a neat looking gun and a very different approach that I have never seen before. Oh! Before I forget, next week is our annual Mormon Picnic and we don't care how many you Bling, just Bling 'em Young! That one is for you, Tuner!
