Hey, so I am currently talking to a guy abut buying a post 64, pre safety, pre angle eject model 94 Winchester 30/30. It also has a saddle ring (confused as to what exactly that is, maybe a sling mount?). He says it is a somewhat rare gun, and wants $350 for it. Is this a good deal? I would of course like a pre 64 but I am a poor trade student. I just really like the look of these old guns and want one for occasional plinking and deer hunting as well. Thanks again guys.

here is a pick of a saddle ring version. its the 1" to 1-1/2" ring below the hammer on the side. if the bore and finish is in good shape 350 is not a bad price in this market.

The original purpose of the saddle ring is exactly what it sounds like; to secure the rifle to the saddle so that it didn't bounce out while your mighty steed was bucking and galloping all over tarnation.

Modern use, at least on mine, is that it makes a handy attachment point for a one-point sling.

(Not me, not mine.)

If 1964 to about 1982, it'll have the sintered metal (cast) frame that's functional, but very prone to rust.
If so, up to you on what you want to pay.

If in poor shape, $350 would probably be a shade high.
If in good shape, particularly if made after the return to a forged frame. $350 would be a good price.

DO NOT COMMIT BEFORE SEEING IT!

There are too many rusted & pitted sintered frames floating around & it's not a simple matter to re-blue them.

yeah, you cannot reblue those guns, or it is very hard to do something with the metal that makes it turn purple when you try.
