Winchester 94 firing pins, Pre64 and post 63

I have heard / read that a firing pin for a pre '64 Winchester 94 will fit and work in a top ejecting post '63 94 but not the other way around due to the cut in the former.

Is this correct or false ? I'm mainly wanting to know if the more abundant and after market pre '64 pins will work in the post '63 top ejecting 94's
